Star Citizen's financial success probably inspired a lot of other companies to rely on early access sales and lovely cosmetics to fund feature creep. Beyond that, 12 years is way too long to care about a game I have no intention to play. Maybe when it release and is still barely playable, I may check out a funny glitch compilation on youtube.

Yeah there's a lot that is actually there but it's buggy af, and comically uninterested in telling you how to play it. I do actually believe the single player might release one day and will be a game, i will be very surprised if it is any good. I recommend picking it up on a few weekend and trying it, i spent a few hours trying to have fun and failing but maybe it's got better since then?

I don't think Star Citizen is a funny enough scam or video game failure to warrant 12 straight years of mocking it. It doesn't even have a Batman meter.

Although they've (barely) managed to recreate the Mass Effect elevator experience with their jump holes/warp gates between the two planetary systems they have in the game now. Note that the $6 million dollar kickstarter stretch goal was to release the game with 100 planetary systems so...

sad truth of SC is that it'll just eventually "finish" to some degree after many years and be just sort of mediocre instead of a flaming ball of drama and failure

LazyMaybe posted:sad truth of SC is that it'll just eventually "finish" to some degree after many years and be just sort of mediocre instead of a flaming ball of drama and failure Yeah in 2015-16 there seemed to be a very great possibility the whole thing falling apart into an explosion of funny drama and lawsuits but then it just didn't and instead became a boring slow-motion disintegration that's worth looking in on maybe once every few months/years in case something particularly dumb has happened or someone runs a "hey, remember this bullshit" article.
