The Veterans of the Long War box has

10 Legionaries and 5 Chosen who you can build as Khorne Berzerkers
10 Terminators who also exist in the WE book
5 Possessed who can be given the extra weapons from making Exalted Eightbound to make 5 regular Eightbound
1 Chaos Lord who you can run as a Master of Executions

It's all there...

i am glad that CSM has some nice value boxes for new players but the new models for the codex are two characters you can only get in a $150+ box? that's annoying.

Frog Act posted:

On the subject, are there definitive builds to make the Imperial Agents and Starstriders effective? Is there a specific set of minis I should choose to build in terms of equipment and alternative options for those or is it not a big deal if I go with the alternative options I think are aesthetically pleasing?

nobody expects you to model Equipment on your guys. this is just meaning things you spend EP on, like flash visors, grenades, armored bodysuits, etc. you just tell your opponent what equipment you took in the "choose equipment" phase.

for the models and weapon loadouts, starstriders have one fixed loadout with no options. as long as every model is more or less identifiable, kitbashing is fine here. all you need is to temper your ambitions with asking yourself, "if my opponent has never played me before, are they going to be able to look at this model and have a general idea of what it does?"

inquisitorial agents are a little dicier because while all of the agents have (mostly) fixed loadouts, the GW models reused bodies for some of them. plus, half your team is probably going to be taken from another imperial KT list. so your opponent is going to be doing a lot of squinting at your guys to see who does what even on a good day. there's plenty of room to kitbash but make sure your opponent isn't going to have trouble IDing your guys.

on top of this, imperial agents' team composition is complicated because it has a lot of rules and situational options. you generally run it with vet guard or sometimes breachers. a good take-all comers loadout would be interrogator, tome-skull, autosavant, DW vet, pistolier, mystic, and plasma servitor, paired with a vet guard contingent of grenade launcher gunner, sniper, demo, comms, medic, and hardened.

fwiw, both threads cover KT but the GW spec games thread usually has more advice on specific playstyle stuff.

But that's kind of the norm nowadays and has been for the past year or two for new releases. I think the Black Templar box was the first.

Going back quite a few years in fact. At least it's gotten better, when they started doing this it be those battle boxes where if you wanted the HQ model, you'd have to split the box or get a bunch of models for an army you don't collect. Both models will be available by the end of the year at a premium.

it's really not! SOB and votann and cadia and beastsnaggas and kroot and lumineth and slaves to darkness and seraphon, all of them were all-new. strike force agastus was all-new except for heavy intercessors, which were a fairly recent release. the BT box (which wasn't first) only had the redemptor as a retread. the recent DW box is the worst one i can think of, and even then the only retreads are 10 (fairly recent) terminators with a brand new upgrade sprue.

like, i can't complain too badly. these are outstanding battleforce boxes for new players, and a chaos lord is the easiest thing in the world to kitbash. i have a half-dozen promising kitbash candidates sitting in my shamebox right now, waiting to see what post-codex army lists look like. it's just a weird shame that every single thing they've announced for CSM so far is going to be exclusive to a boxed set with a bunch of unrelated other stuff.

Yeah I think I had it a bit mixed up. If anything it's a slight walk back to older boxes, like the one Ghaz and Ragnar Blackmane were introduced. Just without the opposing armies.

the DP was already released in a standalone box before the release of the balefleet battleforce.

the DP was exclusive to an army box set, but it was the slaves to darkness release box, which had new ogroid theridons and new chaos chosen warriors.

Rolling a handful of dice, and realizing too late that a couple of them are adult novelty "Spice up the bedroom" dice from Spencer's Gifts, so now you're just staring bleakly at a d6 that says "BALLS" while the entire game store argues which number should be assigned to the die that rolled a "KISS"

Let's do the space-time warp again!

For a game company GW makes a lot of really bad dice, it's not clear to me anyone involved actually plays. They love to change whether the special/faction symbol is on the 1 or the 6, and sometimes they put different symbols on both. They may have peaked with the Idoneth dice that have that sin, plus being transparent with wobbly lines for hash marks to make it as hard as possible to read at a glance:

But on the other hand, they have sharp edges, so it's not all bad.

If you're concerned can you just buy a couple of sticks of casino dice and use those? I guess maybe you'd want something more regular in case you accidentally cripple a cogboy while throwing your saves.
