No that’s The Big Bang Theory

One time I was at a comic/nerd hobby store and the owner had been cornered by a middle-aged woman, probably there with her kids, enthusiastically saying "Oh man, this is just like Big Bang Theory! I thought they just made up this stuff for the show, but nope, it's just like the comic shop in Big Bang Theory! People are actually here playing card games, too, just like on Big Bang Theory!" and you could see the light actively leaving his eyes each time she made the comparison

Fun Shoe

I saw a teenager wearing a pair of jnco-style jeans in the wild mere months ago. I don't know what brand they were or where he got them, but someone somewhere is making these things again.

I wanted to like that but I tried watching a clip and the vibe completely slid off me. I could probably watch it just for the scenery though.

Kevin Costner has made a sprawling two-movie Western epic coming out later this year that I’ll probably bite on

You're right, and if your experience is like mine, most seem too weak and complacent and self interested to even engage with the truth. Don't let em gaslight you.

When I started typing this I thought it would be comforting. Hmmm.

Uh... wanna summon Tiamat the dragon of chaos, that they might swallow the world? Something fun we can all do together!

Been having a normal one myself. In solidarity. Nobody should suffer the weight of sanity in these days.

it honestly does help a little to have someone else acknowledge it. nowadays i feel like i'm hallucinating the whole universe. other people are just... not in the same plane of existence. they're off in a parallel plane of existence where everything is fine and nothing is going on and things will just work out if we all keep quiet and only talk about the cheerful stuff

First off, the entire universe is a lot to hallucinate. Start out smaller.

Secondly, the old adage about what the Swedish statesman said to his son applies to all eras, I think. Obviously no one wants to be the galley slave, especially on the rows under anyone, but that happened. The world, in the sense of "that awful lovely mess of other people out there" has existed as long as we've had farming and the idea of property extending to other human beings. Which arguably is where all the bad stuff originated.

Now, the good part is that in a scant couple billion years, maybe even a few hundred million, humanity as we understand it and certainly as a technosphere, will cease to exist. Which means no more needless suffering for the petty needs of whimsical Marc Anthonys. It also means no more human endeavour, but given just how much of that has gone into making other people miserable, is it really a loss, I wonder

Anyway, the point is you can't do dick about it, so be like muir over there, accept that there is no way to be accountable to any moral system, which are all arbitrary to begin with, and stay buzzed as much as you can as long as you can, because we are all in this together but we all die alone

SA got a shoutout in a NYT article about the Reddit IPO:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/21/...&smid=url-share

quote:

At the time, Reddit was known as one of the darkest parts of the internet — an anything-goes forum where trolls, extremists and edgelords reigned. Light on rules and overseen by an army of volunteer moderators, Reddit — which once hosted popular communities devoted to nonconsensual pornography, overt racism and violent misogyny, among other topics — was often spoken of in the same breath as online cesspools like 4chan and SomethingAwful.

The main quest of talking to people is still resulting in liberals, trump supporters, and other less easily defined delusion (looking at you, guy who kept yelling about chemtrails).

But I saw pink talking fish last night and plenty of music and beer and whiskey and some feel good party candy keep the smile on.

I've been enjoying talking to a coworker who I think is a republican (I hope is a former republican), had a fruitful conversation when she claimed everything is corrupt- no, I said, this is the point. It's not corrupt. It's working as intended and we are playing our part because the game is so won. And we talked about how our every interaction with society becomes more degrading, more inhumane, as they replace people with automation. How the old and sick and needy are abused and disregarded by our Healthcare system in the wealthiest country in the world.

It's much easier to find allies when one stops seeing the world through the lens of political parties.

If you can both agree the government should be our power against capital and the forces making our lives and world worse... if you can convince them the government sucks because of capital... if you can advocate for communities looking out for people...

You might find they're less diehard Republican and more communist!

I wouldn't, uh, start with that though!. And convincing somebody not to vote republican is far easier than convincing them to vote for democrats.
