I like the ads promoting intra-game betting that end with a message about how you shouldn't chase your losses.

More, we need more. We need a way to track the statistics of sports gamblers and invest in the most successful ones. Maybe bundle them into an index fund.

I blame fantasy sports becoming a widespread thing, it easily blurred the lines and normalized sports betting on a whole new level.

Between fantasy sports, poker players becoming mini celebrities and UFC brought a bunch of sports gambling back to the masses and let the big leagues start to wade in.

no lube so what posted:wtf, online scratch offs? Yeah, some states moved their lottery to an online website. I have "My Numbers" I always play for $2 so I'll spend $20 to line it up for 10 consecutive drawings which you can't do at the store or on the machines. I did browse around though and there are all of these "Games" that remind me of newgrounds flash games. Apparently you can just play flash slots right on their website for real money. The side bar is like "(Username) Won $100!" except it's the same username winning the last 5+ $100 prizes so you know that person has plowed like $5,000 into the game that day.

Knowing the current state of capitalism, indoor smoking spaces might have been able to get away with a ridiculous surcharge for access to that area. Like a restaurant could have a $20 ashtray fee auto included in the bill in the smoking section or something. It would still have insane shrieking by the smokers, but it might have had a similar effect.

I blame fantasy sports becoming a widespread thing, it easily blurred the lines and normalized sports betting on a whole new level. As a side effect you now also see rampant amounts of casino app commercials like Bet Rivers one that literally uses the tune for the diarrhea song. Some of the F2P/IAP Bejeweled style games have them more often too, depending on the streaming source you use. I see them a lot on certain Pluto TV channels. IMO one of the things that was always different about betting in countries outside of the US is based on how those major sports leagues are run with tons of rules around spending and ownership as they're ultimately one massive business, on top of the fact that the four major US leagues are the indisputable best on the planet for each of their respective sports without any remotely close competition. If a team in a US league is struggling, they usually just bail them out or move them somewhere else and the owner and/or city foots the bill. Go look at what the NHL has been doing trying to keep the Arizona Coyotes alive for like ten years (even though they'll inevitably move somewhere soon), or the Athletics moving to Las Vegas. While there are always corrupt refs in any league, there's just so much room for corruption at a higher level in the US once you integrate legalized betting into the mix. I realize I'm not articulating this as well as I could, but the crux of it all is that US sports betting and its effect on both American society and the global sports landscape is just so much worse than anything that's ever existed as far as I'm concerned.

I wish I could find the article, but fantasy sports only took off when online poker was cracked down on. It's all been one process, going back to the mid-late 2000's.

In the last South Carolina gubernatorial election, the Dem candidate had this thorough and well thought out plan to legalize marijuana sales and use that money to fix roads, pay teachers, and fund child healthcare. All of these are absolutely glaring problems in South Carolina. Weed is effectively decriminalized in all the big metro centers. Teachers have like the third worst salary in the country and the roads are so bad you don’t need signs to know when you drive into SC. the Republican response to this proposal was “no.” It’s amazing how the GOP doesnt even pretend to have solutions to problem. Like can you imagine Trump pretending to have an answer to healthcare costs like McCain had to do?
