I've spent a lot of time watching Nickelodeon shows and the only one actually worth rewatching as an adult is Hey Arnold.

However, the episode of of Rugrats titled "Chuckie's Wonderful Life" where Chuckie wishes he was never born is excellent, really good stuff. The episode where Chuckie thinks he has Rhinoceritis is pretty funny too.

the world becoming a baby dominated living hell thanks entirely to chuckie not being around to say "maybe this isnt such a good idea" to any stupid thing other babies want to do is hilarious

she had Tommy's parents so busy making her sweets that they have no time to give their own baby food (this is because of his lack of courage)

from a few pages ago but Rachel Sennott chat reminded me I watched Bottoms over the weekend because I heard good things and I thought it was aggressively unfunny. it felt like it was trying to simultaneously be Superbad and Wet Hot AmericanSummer or Heathers but just stumbled loosely between the two different tones and was held together by what felt like a ton of improv. maybe I’m just old or not the target audience idk, wasn’t for me at all. also marshawn lynch is in it for some reason??

the book I read (which was pulpy as gently caress and which I wouldn't recommend to adults) had all machinery from the steam engine onward failing catastrophically, planes falling out of the sky, gunpowder fizzling harmlessly, and so on

I wouldn't recommend it to not-adults either! It was terrible and viciously violent.

Arnold’s grandparents who he lived with were literally landlords and one episode was about Arnold going around and trying to collect everyone’s rent.
verdict: not socialist.

their tenement is a classically styled boarding house where everybody is expected to share dinners tho its a precapitalist construction that was already antiquated even when the show was new so it confounds the abstract definition of landlord that we tend to think of as an inherent prerequisite in capitalist systems since the grandparents actually do labor and have personal relationships with their tenants

Yup. Haven't even invented a single lightsaber or time machine. The gently caress do we even pay them for

I’m not sure this is comparable since in the Expanse the phenomenon was always local, often temporary, and intelligible if not completely understood by in-universe physicists

it had a parallel in bad guys who wanted to be bad for no reason. the motivation was doing bad things for their own sake. I remember most of the Captain Planet villains wanted to pollute because they thought slime and acid rain were cool

yeah after 2 episodes of USA 3 body problem the tencent version is more interesting and better written. the idpol tendencies applied in the USA version during the cultural revolution make no sense to me really.

also in the tencent version the cultural revolution scenes were some of the most interesting stuff where the USA version they are probably the least to me. I’ll continue checking it out but I’m appreciating the tencent version a lot more now.

i thought it was pretty funny how the netflix three body problem had to avoid explaining what a struggle session actually was or else the whole scene would have come off as a critique of cancel culture

I think some people didn't like The Killer because it's not what they expected. They wanted to watch a cool movie about a badass killer like Leon the Professional, and what they got is a dark comedy that plays itself straight. The other problem is the characters can be aggravating, because the story is a comedy of errors performed by people who think they're smarter than they actually are..

i know youre not wrong to describe leon the professional as being a movie thats perceived as being about a badass killer but goddamn has that movie made it hard to know what to even expect from that genre when the whole thing is loaded with weird pedoshit that none of the fans even seem to have noticed

I’m going to stop watching USA 3 body and prefer Tencent version. I don’t know what’s all in the book but I did check one thing and you can learn a lot from someone in how they treat kids and the show runners and the writers need to loving get their heads checked.

for no reason other than a barely contrived maternal association they introduce graphic repeated child death in the VR game.

then to get the info the UK govt is just going to graphically slaughter all these people including a poo poo load of kids and they show part of the aftermath.

the book does not have the kid in the VR game and I’m guessing the boat doesn’t as well?

it’s unnecessary and it already adds to how bad this show is and completely unwatchable now for me. there are other parts that make it bad but the amount of child carnage I guess doesn’t surprise me from these jackasses.

the way the netflix version emphasizes the cuteness of the kid over the actual science the game is intended to teach really shows how theyre trying to tell a completely different kind of story while using the same beats the tencent version presumes that the mystery of the constant apocalypses on its own is enough to make the game intriguing but the american version presumes that without some sort of emotional manipulation no one not even scientists can be bothered to care about trying to rescue a doomed world

its like an almost perfect demonstration of how save the cat film philosophy has completely taken over hollywood productions that they converted three body problem to that template when it was already perfectly successful not adhering to it at all
