Yeah when dying at least has a chance for them to gain a scar that will either fade with time or can be removed by using the hotspring on volcanic isle

Cool.

By "dying" do you mean getting downed or getting sent back to the rift?

I'm NG+ and just noticed a new system?

I was going back to the dragonforged to wyrmsmith some armor and he has like a bunch of new options. One of which being to boost a vocation so that you get better stat increases from level ups while in it is what I think i"m reading? I'm level 64 so I'm not gonna get a lot of benefit from this unless I rush back to red world and grind but what is this even for? There isn't an UR-Dragon or BBI. NG+ mobs aren't any tougher then NG I think. Do they have some big post release thing I'd wanna beef up for?

I had to brine my pawn once because it was literally impossible for me to do the Magick Archer quest with her in my party, and she was so sad about it when she came back it made me feel bad.

Given how slavishly they've modeled this game after the first (and I mean that with all compliments), I would not be remotely surprised if there is something added that is extremely similar to BBI in the future. And that place was no joke, hell the pit right after the main game was no joke at all either. Huge difficulty spike.

Which this game could really use, frankly. My one significant criticism of the game is that I felt nigh unbeatable by around level 25 or 30 against anything but Drakes and super special monsters. I've used a wakestone on myself all of one single time in the entire game.

some ghoulish parody of humanity
I've filled in the Capcom survey and requested them to just re-release the Everfall and Bitter Black Isle for this game, I don't even care if that's paid DLC. Hope they do something new as well of course.

I've added my main man Griz (Q2U9O7J077VX) to the goon pawn sheet. He's only level 10, but when I got to Venworth I gave in and bought myself some stiletto's and I gave him the best shield I could afford and a broadsword (I stole some armor for him in the palace). It kind of felt bad using a vendor to improve our gear and weapons and I normally don't do that in other games, but so far it felt like every big chest where my heart was pumping with anticipation only contained like, an apple.

I tried adding your pawns by searching directly, but the game couldn't find some of their pawn tags. I'm on PS5 but we're supposed to be able to invite pawns from every system, right? Thinking about just favoriting every single pawn in the sheet, so I can hire them in the later game (most of you are currently overleveled for me). I did cave in and hire one of your mages, a level 20 older gentleman that keeps loving off in the distance and is kind of a smug about everything. He's 10 levels above me so I hope I don't trivialize the game with him, but we'll see.

The new patch seemed to make performance smoother for me. I didn’t get the chance to check out the main city, but the border town felt noticeably smoother than yesterday.

The NPC pop-in is still horrendous, though.

re: quest Till death do us part

The dice was loaded from the start, I had absolutely no chance of making it. We fought in the darkness, surrounded by water, and the Dullahan warped immediately next to the bridge where people kept falling into the water. I fell in twice and apparently then Gregor fell and the fight was over. I understand there is a chance to save him, but I certainly had none.

The update that dropped fixed my softlocked game, now it no longer matters that the inkeep evaporated because I can just go buy the house. Glad that they are actually listening directly to bug reports.

I finished the game (and secret ending), used Magick Archer for most of it. Magick Archer is so loving cracked, the master technique oneshots almost everything in the game (except some specific large enemies with phased health bars or Dullahans since they just peace out sometimes).

Now I'm playing again from a fresh save as Thief, as it's clearly the second most OP class.

Right right, but how is the Magick Archer aside from the ability that burns health loss to be overpowered? Worthwhile at all?

Ricochet is incredible indoors/in caves, and singlehandedly clears rooms ahead of the party.

Frost Seeker is really good single target DPS since it passes through walls and floors to hit the target, and was my go-to when outdoors and not willing to burn HP for the Martyr shot.

Didn't really end up using anything else since those three carried the game so hard for me.

Worst enemy type to deal with were the late game Saurians since they resist magic a fuckton but even Frost Seeker would generally either stagger or freeze them for my Warrior pawn to apply greatsword.

Mage, Warrior, Mystic Spearhand, Magic Archer
Mage was interesting, if underpowered feeling, but a good support class.
Warrior was meaty and impactful and knocking enemies over and then wailing on their head was hugely satisfying
Mystic Spearhand took a lot before it felt useful, charged bolt was useful, but the real win is the invulnerable shield at will with no cooldown.
Magic Archer also took a bit of getting used to but was just OP as hell once you get a few skills together and know how to use them.
I absolutely loved just being in this world, even if the balance and difficulty falls away after midgame pretty badly
The story is incoherent as gently caress but the world is cool

I played this straight after mainlining FF7Re2 and I have to say this game had way more moments that impacted me (outside some of the cinematic story elements), sure that game is polished as gently caress and feels like a billion dollars went into it, but I think this game is just more interesting, is going for something really unique and I totally get the "best 7/10 game ever" narrative that surrounds the previous game.

I'd love to see some other studio try to crib this or do a game really heavily inspired by the systems in it.

Comparing DD2 to FF7:ReB is interesting, in that I like both games, but what I love about DD2 is the thing that made me like FF7 less. DD2 shines because Itsuno absolutely believes in the core framework of the original and doesn’t run away from it, meanwhile the FF7 team is the exact opposite - it felt like that team just didn’t think that the core gameplay of FF7: R was enough so the sequel is a completely exhausting affair where they crammed some gimmick or mini-game in there every 5 feet.

it's pretty funny how many weird new systems that would be better off earlier in the game come into existence near the very end of it.

also it would be nice to be able to like, check a box on making a new character to unlock all vocations if you've beaten the game so you can like, just play a magick archer or spearhand from the get go. just a nice thing not a required thing, i just don't like how late you get some of these unlocks. in ng+ i switched my char to warfarer just for fashion's dogma fwiw, altho i will probably set the game aside for a bit until its got some updates. it was a lot of fun and i cant wait to revisit it after more Content

Unrelated but does anyone know if the Dullahan ever respawns in the Misty Marshes? I still haven't killed one but need to so I can get my Magick Archer gear to max Elven smithing. I left a portcrystal out there just in case but so far I haven't seen another Dullahan.

I fought the dullahan with my half dead, unrested party! The fighter died a lot because that thing doesn't gently caress around. Then it escaped before I could finish it off.

Then I finally found a drake that stuck around long enough for me to kill it

And now, at level 37, I'm finally finishing up Brant's quests. By now I'm sure he's reconsidering whether or not I'm really royalty material given how much hoboing around I've been doing.

I just went tear-assing around the map exploring as soon as I could so I'd already been to Checkpoint Town by the time I even started on the main quest. So when Brant wanted his infinite use gaol key back so I was just like suuuuure I'll give it back just uhh, give me two days. I thought the forger was going to make an unusable copy but nope, just got a stack of 2 identical keys back. Turns out to have come in handy in Cat Town because I tried to do the thief quest before getting a entry permit and as soon as I went into the prison the guards tackled me and threw me in a cell. No idea how you're supposed to get out of that otherwise since smashing everything inside didn't seem to turn up any one time key or anything. So I'm sure there's all kinds of sequence breaking and other silliness people will discover with the forgery system after a while.

It feels kind of silly to say but I rarely ever have more then like two, maybe three, ferry stones with me at best and so I frequently have to decide if warping somewhere is a good idea or if I should just run/oxcart the trip instead. Especially since the ferrystone can really save my rear end during an escort/time limited quest or something and most games don't really make you think about travel time and space like that. I don't think I'd want every game in the world to be like this either, I don't think I could stand an Elden Ring without ready access to warping.

Oxcart is a good idea whenever possible, it's just 100-200g, but there are no oxcarts when you get to Battahl. I make a habit of buying a ferrystone at the local apothecary whenever I arrive in a town, so I never risk running out. It is 10k per, but by the time you're in the second half of the game that's chump change.

Good looking out. I'll try there. I am a bit bummed that some of the more interesting enemy types are so scarce. I guess I was expecting BBI levels of enemy variety out the gate which is maybe an unfair expectation. Since the dullahan, gorgon, etc. got played up in pre-release footage I was definitely expecting to see more of them than (so far) once each though. The sphinx has lived up to the hype at least. I'd love to see more creature design on that level for DLC because she looks amazing.
