buying MTX for dragon's dogma 2 actively diminishes the whole thrust of the game. it very much comes across as something that capcom corporate finance demanded be put in ad hoc rather than something that was designed around from day 1 it's a very stupid inclusion but not for the reason The Discourse has been determined to push

Khanstant posted:To me the fundamental difference is in game design. Mtx I associate with the grander suite of dark designs. It's not just being available in game, it's that those games are designed around mtx on a core level. The dlc here are the kind of crap an mtx based game might include, but the game itself doesn't funnel you towards them. I would never want to buy rift crystals because I literally do not use the RC I have already, every pawn I rent costs 0 RC lmao. In an mtx game I would want RC because I have to grind for it to be able to do something fun like summon a pawn. Yeah these are all reasons why it's not nearly as bad as most games with microtransactions. But they still are microtransactions and shouldn't be there to begin with in a full priced game. Same goes for literally every Capcom game though.

I've been hating DLC since horse armor and have wasted much time railing against the gambling mtx in casinos to the gamblers in it. The DLC spread here is stupid and is in all their games. There are usually 1 or 2 DLCs with actual content you'd want and cannot get in abundance in normal play, like in Yakuza games some add classes others give u a fuckin can of coffee. Same with DD2, most are junk but one adds different sound effects and music.

Here is a bad take. I love the warrior. It's like the truck simulator of vocations. I get into kind of a zen state of chaining together attacks that just really clicks with me. I feel like going back to thief would be a net negative in terms of gameplay fun, damage output and crowd control.

And in case anyone who doesn't already know, you should probably read the item descriptions because items actually do what they say they do that is not represented in stat comparisons. Edit: To explain further, a modest camping kit is the worst camping kit as it is susceptible to being destroyed more often when ambushed at night. The mundane is better just for being not as susceptible. There are other camping kits that have a regional advantage in Vermundian and Battahli areas, the explorer's camping kit that less chance of being destroyed the farther out from cities you are and the elite camping kit that is marked as resilient against enemy attacks. I've had an Elite camping kit pretty early and it has yet to break from enemy ambushes while 3 out of 4 times I camped with the modest, I lost it. 8-bit Miniboss fucked around with this message at 19:54 on Mar 29, 2024 |

I don't know if it's just reddit in general, but I've been following the subreddit for the game since it came out, and it's weird how it's been dominated by these cycles of outrage. First everybody was really upset about the microtransactions, then everybody was really upset about dragonsplague ruining their saves, and then they were really upset about the lack of enemy variety. I get that sometimes there's a topic du jour that people will bat back and forth for a bit, but at its peak, it seemed like at least half of the posts in the sub were one form or another of complaining about the game. Like, if reading the sub were your only exposure to the game, you'd think Itsuno personally went to every redditor's house and shot their dog or something. Not to say that the game is flawless, but I've just been over here enjoying the journey (literally and metaphorically), climbing on big monsters and savoring the hammy pawn banter. It's like reddit wants to hate the game, for some weird reason

Ah okay I don't think we're in disagreement then, I may have misread your reply. I'd never have known this game had MTX if it weren't for the absurd outrage machine and review bombing. e: on the subject of kind DMs, I have had a single camp ambush in over 60 hours of gameplay. Your camping kit quality doesn't matter if you're just never ambushed (I have never been ambushed, clear the vicinity people). Actually that's not completely true, the worse camping kits weigh more.

I miss respawning chests and all the niche semi rare and niche gear you could find in dd1 too. The armor change really makes it feel like there's not as much to work with appearance wise and there's no niche stuff like rusted/golden weapons. Everything dies so fast by mid game status stuff isn't really a thing but I'm hoping we get a dlc with a more expensive and challenging mode/region where things like status effects become a plan you can use again.

I've only been ambushed twice but in both situations it was after I swept through the surrounding area checking for enemies who might ambush me. Guess I didn't do a good enough job but I have no idea of how far away things can be from a campsite for it to not be a problem.

The elite camping kit weighs 4kg, compared to modest and mundane's 6 and 7. That's the main draw, I think. And the only time I've been ambushed was when I tried to camp multiple times in a row in the same spot, so might be something there.

Once I'm done with the main story I will, and guess what, it's going to be a positive one. DD2 seems to be on the opposite trajectory of Starfield, where it started out really low because at launch it got symbolically crucified for its microtransactions and optimization (deservedly but also exaggeratedly), but the people who sink enough time into it can see that it's worthwhile, despite its many flaws. Started at 40% (maybe even lower?), now it's at 56%, and I'm pretty sure that at some point the trajectories of these two games will cross and it'll have a better score than Starfield.
