buying MTX for dragon's dogma 2 actively diminishes the whole thrust of the game. it very much comes across as something that capcom corporate finance demanded be put in ad hoc rather than something that was designed around from day 1

it's a very stupid inclusion but not for the reason The Discourse has been determined to push

imo the most hosed up thing about this game so far is that something like 95% of the "dungeons" that you find are just caves with maybe ten to five guys in them and a chest with five explosive arrows and 2000 gold in it. i don't know why they went with this direction. i feel like making half that number that were twice as long would have been a lot more enjoyable

I honestly haven't seen a cave / dungeon without at least one gear chest.

To me the fundamental difference is in game design. Mtx I associate with the grander suite of dark designs. It's not just being available in game, it's that those games are designed around mtx on a core level. The dlc here are the kind of crap an mtx based game might include, but the game itself doesn't funnel you towards them. I would never want to buy rift crystals because I literally do not use the RC I have already, every pawn I rent costs 0 RC lmao. In an mtx game I would want RC because I have to grind for it to be able to do something fun like summon a pawn.

Yeah these are all reasons why it's not nearly as bad as most games with microtransactions. But they still are microtransactions and shouldn't be there to begin with in a full priced game.

Same goes for literally every Capcom game though.

Upgrading my old i7-8700 to a ryzen 7 7800x3d plus faster RAM has changed my frame rate in verdun from 30-45 to 50-75. pretty solid improvement but there are still inconsistent stutters that make it feel choppy, my fans are screaming for mercy, and there’s not drastically better hardware you can get for games at the moment so I really hope they can do some better optimization on the NPCs. whatever riveting behavior simulation it’s supposedly doing has yet to be apparent to me in any way, and not one NPC has been interesting enough for me to remember their name, so I don’t know what the point of it is. if this is what’s shredding performance issues then it’s not worth the cost unless NPCs suddenly start being more than cardboard cutouts later on.
the 7000 series wants to run hot by default and will increase clocks depending on how much thermal headroom your system can handle. you're probably overdoing it on your fans attempting to keep it cool when the cpu is trying to get as hot as possible when under a proper workload. it's a weird new way they approach the newer cpus so if you're designing your thermals against how cpus have worked in the past you'll hit that issue

you have a 7950x3d, that's a 2x ccd so the 3d cache is only used by half the chip and why you're having trouble. with a 7800x3d i'm whisper quiet and only get issues in the really dense parts of cities

Didn't really end up using anything else since those three carried the game so hard for me.

Worst enemy type to deal with were the late game Saurians since they resist magic a fuckton but even Frost Seeker would generally either stagger or freeze them for my Warrior pawn to apply greatsword.

You should really try Sagittate Downpour / Avalanche. It is absolutely ridiculous for single target damage and their most powerful skill outside of the ultimate. It's even better than Frostseeker. At the very least it should be used during stagger phases.

e: It's also the only physical damage type skill that Magick Archers get. So it should be on your skill bar for that reason alone.

The DLC spread here is stupid and is in all their games. There are usually 1 or 2 DLCs with actual content you'd want and cannot get in abundance in normal play, like in Yakuza games some add classes others give u a fuckin can of coffee. Same with DD2, most are junk but one adds different sound effects and music.

Their descriptions should give you some clues.

And in case anyone who doesn't already know, you should probably read the item descriptions because items actually do what they say they do that is not represented in stat comparisons.

Edit: To explain further, a modest camping kit is the worst camping kit as it is susceptible to being destroyed more often when ambushed at night. The mundane is better just for being not as susceptible. There are other camping kits that have a regional advantage in Vermundian and Battahli areas, the explorer's camping kit that less chance of being destroyed the farther out from cities you are and the elite camping kit that is marked as resilient against enemy attacks.

I've had an Elite camping kit pretty early and it has yet to break from enemy ambushes while 3 out of 4 times I camped with the modest, I lost it.

That's not a bad take. I always wonder who the classes I don't even wanna try yet are for and it's great to see those folks and why. It's cool the game has those options. It's also not hard to imagine fights and encounters being harder to the point where other specific play styles and locations get to shine. More crowds to control for the tanks. Really just copy WoW, they've been making boss and raid encounters for small groups of specialized classic rpg parties for two decades.

I get that sometimes there's a topic du jour that people will bat back and forth for a bit, but at its peak, it seemed like at least half of the posts in the sub were one form or another of complaining about the game. Once I'm done with the main story I will, and guess what, it's going to be a positive one. DD2 seems to be on the opposite trajectory of Starfield, where it started out really low because at launch it got symbolically crucified for its microtransactions and optimization (deservedly but also exaggeratedly), but the people who sink enough time into it can see that it's worthwhile, despite its many flaws. Started at 40% (maybe even lower?), now it's at 56%, and I'm pretty sure that at some point the trajectories of these two games will cross and it'll have a better score than Starfield.
