Cheese may be ok if the proteases that are used in its production can act on viral coat proteins? I really dunno though.

For real, I'm still not going to restaurants or bars, and I'm fine with it. I WILL be upset if my morning coffee ritual and my love of cheese is hosed because we can't seem to stop making pandemics happen, but I guess I'll just have to switch to coconut milk and hamburgers :( :( :(

Another phenomenal Julia Doubleday piece, this time about NYTimes's immunity debt / relationship to school BS.

https://www.thegauntlet.news/p/nytimes-invents-increasingly-bizarre

quote:

Once again, instead of acknowledging that harm and poor conditions are being foisted upon the public, the paper blames the public and parents for their own victimization by the states’ violent abandonment of infection control. It accuses parents of neglecting their children while gaslighting them that constant illness will make kids healthier and stronger, creating untenable pressure as families are caught between these claims and reality.

Sooooo... how much of a side-eye should I start giving the cute little wrens(?) nesting under my side porch roof? Rhetorical question, I don't mind them being there.

And it's me, I'm the guy not changing his diet for no stinkin' bird flu. :smuggo:

Because the milk I buy is already ultra-pasteurized, the few times I eat eggs they're scrambled, any cheese I eat as part of a meal is thoroughly cooked in an oven/microwave first, and I'll live if the few burgers/steaks I eat have to be cooked well-done.

I suppose I'll be forced to change once the prices become prohibitive or supply becomes unsustainable, but not until then!

I actually looked into this, and they do take passengers and it looks like fun (for awhile). But it's a slow way to get anywhere (months even), it's very boring, and also costs way more than a flight unless you divide the cost by the time you spend on the boat.

what if you divide the cost by monthly cost of housing instead

For general travel questions: How feasible would it ever be to travel by container ship? After a long quarantine in your cabin, you can be confident that nobody's sick and pretend it's 2019 on your lovely cruise until they make a stop. Then repeat the quarantine.

wait hold on, no amount of quarantine your cabin would prove nobody's sick, because passengers could keep taking turns being the contagious one indefinitely, whether there's contact outside the ship or not

You could also put it on over an N95, take off the N95 under the hood, consume, return your N95 to your face and then take off the hood again. I don't think I'd gently caress with that though.

First let's check in on wastewater levels:

Okay, wastewater levels are spiking but reported hospitalizations are dropping, that's weird. Let's check the hospitalizations graph .....

Oh hey they just didn't bother recording hospitalizations for two weeks well that explains it
