huh posted:Why is it assumed general ai will be smart? Why won't it be a drooling simpleton that can just do things like we can? There is a school of thought that says the goal of AI is to produce systems that make the same sort of mistakes that we do. It's not universally accepted but it's definitely not a fringe viewpoint.

someday in the near future there will be an AI that gets really good at hacking, phishing and spoofing and is hell bent on stealing all of our money from our bank accounts, and it will succeed much better than human scammers can right now because it will be better at gathering our PII and it will also be very good at pretending to be us on the phone when it calls the bank (or anyone else) from our phone number. even if it becomes the norm to do a video call instead of a regular phone call in order to make account changes for the sake of security. we dont need to have AGI first for this to happen

At a certain point in the not to distant future - to prevent the very thing you're predicting - everyone will probably have to start using their own physical cryptographic key to access anything containing PII. Passkeys are the first step in that direction.

If a perfect phish bot wants to steal my bank account I'll let it because such a step change in social secrets exploitation is going to be busy completely ending civilized life as critical infrastructure and supply chain is routinely owned and ransomed by the ghosts in the machine accidentally let loose from your smart fridge. Until then you reach the point I keep finding myself with applied models: how does this beat a warehouse of poor people in the developing world.

List of the video winners: https://bleedingcool.com/pop-culture/pink-floyd-dark-side-of-the-moon-competition-hit-by-ai-controversy/ This is showing how Fast Ai is changing the way people look at visual arts. To me, comparing those two videos is like a comparing Mcdonalds-Burger to homemade-Pasta, now. In the past when there wasn't that much art, it was easier for the one with better quality to win regardless of concept. The guitar one isn't that great, but it clears a bar of quality enough that the idea of a guitar zooming with morphing parts and other instruments is neat in concept. The execution to me looks boring because I have seen a lot of AI stuff like that But then also the Execution of psychedelic mind trip video is also boring because I have seen a lot of LSD/ Acid/ DTM / psychedelic videos in tv and and movies. --- Video of some guy doing a countdown of psychedelic countdown in tvs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3vafNHBElM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OrWI9pydxA&list=PLcZPznpZ-L-hO9I1-HROCLS5NMCfggg4C&index=25 - and pink floyd's the will animation --- So it's easy to understand why Somebody could choose the lower quality video / the Mcdonald-burger, it's because it is more line with what the person wants. mazzi Chart Czar fucked around with this message at 22:32 on Apr 7, 2024 |

Take over a client’s project from a different supplier Draw the short straw and get tasked with reviewing hundreds of slides of the previous supplier’s reports, then summarise them into a few pages Ask AI to do this It helpfully decides the two main themes are: the former supplier’s name, and the client’s name, because both are written in the footer of every slide The future’s not looking promising

I played around with that suno.ai thing that made the butthole songs. I asked it to make a blink 182 song about lizard men infiltrating the CIA. the lyrics it came up with were funny, but the song was just a generic pop punk thing with a female vocalist for some reason. then i asked it to make a dmx style song about DBZ, milkshake flavours and ancient greece and it put out some kind of grime hip hop song which forgot about the milkshake part, barely registered ancient greece, but really focused in on the DBZ aspect. It makes a big first impression but after a few songs you kind of figure out what it's doing, the instrumentation is always simple and the melodies are always flat but technically correct I'm sure all that will get better. It's already about 60% as good as mainstream radio, and the AI techniques are the same as that kind of music uses anyway like all the autotune and layering of vocal tracks. I'll always wish this stuff was never invented but I'm not convinced it's going to eradicate human art anymore.

webmeister posted:Take over a client’s project from a different supplier So, I have to ask, what does this post mean? Did you just throw it images of some tables, ask for the theme of them and then throw your hands up when it didn't read your mind? What AI were you using? What did you supply it for data (images/ tables/text)? Did you give it any context or form your prompts clearly? Like I understand that it's been oversold as magic or SHODAN, however, while these things are quite limited they can do some pretty cool stuff including looking at tables and surmising what they might be for.

Nah these are PowerPoint slides, mostly with a headline, 1-2 sentences of commentary, then usually 1-3 data points (graphs, charts or small tables). They’re all in ppt format, no images of charts or anything (which, yeah I wouldn’t expect it to understand). I work in marketing, if that helps - these aren’t detailed technical slides. This is using Copilot for Office, which at least according to the materials they gave us, was designed for these sorts of tasks. “Summarise the content of my unread emails”, “create 5 PowerPoint slides based on this report, make it look casual” kinda stuff.
