I escorted a guy where he wanted to go and after a while standing there it said I failed the escort. Was I supposed to do something there?

Yeah I had one escort randomly fail while walking too. Like no combat nowhere for the guy to seemingly fall to his death. Just he was standing next to me one moment and was gone/autosave triggered the next

I feel like there's no real reason to gear up a lot in postgame, I'll collect all the sets and stuff just for the sake of having it but I'm already itching to start a new game and this time ACTUALLY just do me and my pawn. It's just so annoying having to heal between fights and not having a good way to do it that isn't just a thousand draughts.

I've died more from fall damage while trying to track down seeker tokens than I have from fighting monsters.

The thing that makes it nasty is you can't heal through it like you can if a monster knocks you down to 0 HP. Only way to cheat fall damage is with a wakestone.

I find that the best Archer skills (that don't use special arrows) just enable you to vaguely approach the lower end of the damage other vocations can do, though.

Archer is nice when you heavily outlevel your opponents though, since it's capable of the fastest ranged attacks.

Has anyone tried out Blight Arrows? I'm curious if giving enemies Blight is any good.

Blight is ok but double blighting for fulminating blight is pretty strong

That said, my bad taste gets rewarded by what would normally be cruel pranks. "Wow, sure sucks there is this torrential downpour out of nowhere with a troll and then chimera back to back... Or would, if I didn't favor mage ice buffs and sorcerer spells." I don't like frigor, but I loving love ice buff and mini blizzard.

My experience with archer is using the incredible zoom shot at full draw to snipe opponents from afar right in their faces, and if it's a bigger opponent, I tar arrow, then explosive arrow so the monster fully catches the hell on fire almost immediately. This works wonders on griffins because they can't fly while ablaze.
The fourth skill was usually the one that let me do rapid-fire because that will do a surprising amount of damage and you can target multiple enemies.

Oh and kicking a lot of wolves to death. Kicking rules.

My favorite thing about the archer was the little changes it made to your movement so you felt like legolas. Sprinting into a slide and loosing an arrow always felt badass, and the little flips you do to get up on ledges are cute

I have no idea how it's actually calculated but true ending has a special cutscene if you have high pawn affinity. I don't know how they calculate pawn affinity but presumably it's just having them out long enough.

One of the two mods I have installed shows you the numerical value of your pawn's affinity. The threshold for 'is in love' is 620 or so. I'm on my phone but think it's just called Main Pawn Affinity on Nexus.

You gain affinity by talking to your pawn, giving them high fives, taking them to the hot springs, and (especially) giving them makeovers, but it's all on a cooldown so you can't just spam these.
The only way to lose affinity is by letting them die, especially if it's the result of them going nuclear.

The mods "Show Favorability For Everyone" and "Show main pawn favorability" will both show your main pawn's affinity, while "Faster Pawn Affinity" will lower the threshold from 620 to something more reasonable if you're not constantly grinding and high-fiving your pawn.

How do you not high five your pawns all the time? Just practically, they want it constantly and you will get dragged into it if you walk even vaguely near them, which is common when you've both been beating up the last guy in a fight. It's difficult to not high five them.

sometimes the game thinks 'no, constantly walking towards their awaiting hand is NOT about you trying to high five them'

Looking forward to them hopefully adding some longevity to the game with DLC's. Here's to Darker Arisen 2: Dragon Boogaloo

The sphinx riddles were kind of over blown in terms of how hard/cryptic they were. They really encourage you to look for "outside of the box" solutions as early as the first one and I had a lot of fun with them, except the one to find the guy that looks like the other guy. I hope the sphinx returns in any potential dlc.

I finished the game, the postgame is pretty fun. Combat and pawns still really good, but the bad stuff really started to outweigh the good by the end.

The combat isn’t balanced that well once you get to Battahl, there are way too many crappy mobs and not enough big monsters. The big monsters also aren’t as deadly as the small mobs, which is bizarre. The final boss was tickling me and then my sorcerer pawn took off half its life with one cast.

I hope there is an expansion that adds like the first games expansion.

I feel about this, the same way I feel about Dragon’s dogma, I hope a sequel fixes this stuff but it seems this janky mess IS the game they wanted to make so I don’t know.

Also, they didn’t make travel interesting, I enjoyed it at the start but I was done with walking/oxcarting by the end and just ferrystoned everywhere.

If you're ever running low on funds you can just take out materials from storage if you have more than like 20-30 of them

By mid game i had reached the limit of goblin horns so i withdrew 40-50 of each material i had more than 30 of and sold them and ended up with like 200-300k from it

yeah some materials are also just super valuable, magick medals from golems in particular are worth 1500 and you get a half dozen every kill

Yeah I think the game economy is actually balanced around the expectation that you'll be selling monster parts. You get a decent amount of raw gold but most of the loot you find is parts. You really don't need that many to upgrade your gear and you will be getting so much. The only stuff you really need to hold on to is the loot you got from your first encounter with a monster, and the crystals from drakes since you actually do need a lot of those later. Once you've seen a monster like 5 times or so you're probably good to start vendoring its loot.

Knowing about the postgame/NG+ mechanics now, I almost want to restart my character/pawn so I can finish the game at as low a level as possible and then level everything (esp my pawn) with the blessings you get from the Dragonforged. I wonder how much more powerful you'd be by level 80 if you did that from say level 20 as opposed to from level 60

One complaint I have that I don't think I've seen anyone else make is the inability to raise/lower/pan the camera in photo mode, it's a weirdly basic function to be missing and takes a lot of options off the table in photo mode
