I googled
found an update instead

quote:

Remember the manager back in 2016 whose best employee quit on the spot because he wouldn’t let her go to her college graduation? She had been raised in foster care and had no living family, was homeless for a while, and managed to get herself through school and graduate. He wanted to “teach her professional norms” (!!) after she quit because he wouldn’t give her the time off.

I think all of us who read that letter have long hoped the employee is doing well. This week I got an email from someone who appears to be her, saying she had just found the post:

This is about me. I know for a fact it is because this exact thing happened to me in that time frame. And I know exactly who it was.

I’d like to tell this person that I have a general idea of the social norms but (redacted — medical conditions) make it impossible to stay on this side of reality very long. I did however get medicated and become a GM myself that would never be a jerk like he was.

And it wasn’t about the graduation. At freaking all. It was so much more than that. It was about having one day that was just mine.

Joke’s on him though. That diploma has gotten me further in life than I would have gotten without.

Years ago back in the Livejournal era, I stumbled upon this account that had a ton of Jonas Brothers/Band of Brothers fanfiction. Yes, the WW2 dudes. It had a bunch of the mid-2000s Disney show characters too. They all went to boarding school together. And the Band of Brothers were all teachers. I still remember this years later because it was just so loving weird. Anyway, I have no trouble believing this guy is for real.

I love the seniority rule too. No keeping track of who works when to ensure an even distribution of unpopular stuff like working weekends, just straight up the ones who've been here the longest get to pick and choose and the new ones can get hosed.

It's pointless to debate if these are real, but I gotta think: Wouldn't you start off by saying that you and your fiancee were dating for 2 years before your parents met and started dating?

The thing is, if it is "weird" then it is the parents who made it so in the first place by getting married and making the two lovers step siblings.

All that had happened before then was a boyfriend and girlfriend who introduced their lonely parents in the hop that they would get along.

Which is a good and wholesome thing. Just as those two parents getting along so well that they get married is a good and wholesome thing. Being pervy and prudish about the boyfriend and girlfriend continuing to date/get married is what's weird and wrong.

I love it so much when brainwashed peons use corporate-speak. And it's always some "team leader" or "shift manager", i.e. the dipshits who are one step up from the very bottom of the ladder who fall for this poo poo the hardest. "I manage a team," no my dude, you manage a shift at a call centre. Nobody else considers you a "professional". You're not a doctor, architect, engineering, or lawyer. You got your job because you're the oldest and everyone else who started with you finished high school/uni and moved on. You're one of us peons, and us peons gotta stick together. Corporate will never respect you as their equal no matter how much you lord your one smidgeon of authority over us.

This on a much larger scale is basically why the union at an old job of mine collapsed. New hires kept getting worse and worse benefits because the old guard running negotiations were all in on "gently caress you keep mine". Then one year the management came after the old guard's benefits that nobody else had been able to opt into this millennium and why aren't the young people joining the strike???

As a manager I've been in this situation where someone has something important but I need the shift covered supporting production and it isn't fair to the other employees to move them around either of they don't want, so you know what I did? Covered the shift myself. It's that simple. If you are a manager you need to be prepared to cover for an employee when they have something important

The seniority thing is bizarre to me because apparently the employee worked there for six years? And was still at the bottom of seniority somehow? What the gently caress kind of call center has that kind of retention, and lack of new hires? That's the most insane part of the story for me.

Absolutely true, but even if he doesn't know jack poo poo, it's a call center. I feel like if he wanted to, he probably could have bullshitted his way through a two-hour shift using a combination of the prepared script, the checklist of common answers (have you tried restarting your computer?), putting customers on hold to buy time, some rear end-pulls about "our tech team is working on this very issue" and so forth. Customers might not get their issues solved because he doesn't actually know how to solve their problems, but he probably could have basically played for time until Best Employee comes in to start actually answering poo poo correctly.

Of course, that would mean he'd need to come in on the day they're normally closed (read: weekend or holiday) and I'm sure as poo poo not giving up *my* day off.

I don't think it says anywhere that she was 18 when she quit?

The manager references her being there for six years, and says she was homeless for a period when she was 18, but that is referenced as the past. My brain just hurts trying to figure out how in a call center job, an industry notorious for turnover, somebody isn't a senior employee after six years.

AITA for laughing at my dad for getting me a porn magazine for my birthday

quote:

I turned 18 yesterday and like an hour after I’d opened my presents my dad handed me another gift. I opened it and it was some loving porn magazine from like the 90s or some poo poo. I laughed at him because I knew exactly why he got it me. I came out to my parents as gay a couple months ago and since then my dad has been trying to tell me how great women are I usually just ignore him though because i’m definitely 100% gay. I didn’t think he’d go this far to convert me, it’s funny as gently caress. He got upset at me for laughing at him and he told me I should be more appreciative and he said that this gift is to signify me becoming a man. I just kept laughing at him because it’s loving funny innit? Bro thought a gay guy would want a 30 year old straight porn magazine. I asked him where he even got it from because it’s mega old and he said he just got it from the corner shop. That is such a lie though lmao why would the corner shop sell old rear end porn mags? I go in there all the time and I have never in my life seen this poo poo before. Mega funny.

He yelled at me and called me ungrateful and my mum agreed with him. I still think it’s a dumb present and I still think it’s funny as gently caress. Why is my own dad trying to convert me, please wtf. Maybe I should’ve like acted grateful tho idk. But like who thinks it’s a good idea to give their son porn for their birthday like hello? Even if I wasn’t gay it’d be a dumb present like why do I need a magazine? I’ve got the internet for all that pal. Does he actually think we’re in the 70s. I was a bit of a twat though i don’t know maybe I’m the arsehole? I have no idea tbh I just thought it was funny. My dad is still really upset with me tho

‐----‐--UPDATE!!!!!!-‐--‐--
I got my cat back! After seeing everyone's responses to my last post, I decided on a course of action to get my cat back. Long story short, I was able to contact my daughter's ex and told him I would do what he asked, but it had to be at my house and I had to be able to see my cat first so I would know he had even brought her with him. He agreed and showed up at my house with my cat. As soon as he was in the house and I had possession of my cat, my boyfriend, (who is also my daughter's father), and my daughter's new boyfriend, both, came out of the bedroom and "nicely" escorted the ex boyfriend off of my property without further incident.
Thank all of you for your comments and advice.
