100%.

But remember, since the Ukraine War, this whole class of liberals see MI7 as essentially good and patriotic. There's almost no difference in class background, education and affect, between someone in media, NGOs, or a four letter agency. They're the same type of ambitious striver cum PMC, and other than variations in job title, they all do the same thing. There's a guy here finishing his PhD on propaganda, which he frames entirely as a thing other, authoritarian, countries do. He just works closely with CBC and other Canadian news outlets to help them counter disinformation by presenting the right narratives.

By the way, he used to work in military intelligence, then CSIS.

people keep posting that "firebombing a walmart" tweet as if it's some kind of a sick own and it's not really true? between things like Aaron Bushnell's sacrifice, Calla Walsh's protests against Elbit, and all the people blocking traffic, there's obviously a not-insignificant cohort of the population that's willing to put their lives on the line for political action

also what’s actually being proposed is collective action to promote socialism not firebombing a Walmart

Its always projection. The people tweeting that kind of stuff would never put their lives on the line for their beliefs (because they're fundamentally neoliberal centrists and don't have any) so they can't fathom anyone else doing so.

It's working too. Even if there aren't outward signs of the ruling class changing their tone, the fact that they're bleating about antisemitism and holding grandstanding hearings to grill presidents of ivy league universities is proof that the pressure is getting to the fuckers.

I'm of the mind that "Genocide Joe" is just a convenient way to peel away voters.

Do you see any candidate who would have committed US troops to lie-down to protect hospitals or stop Israeli bulldozers?

Do you see this current conflict in any way but inevitable given the politics of the region over the last 20 years?

There is no protest vote. There are people looking to peel away voters using very specific language and framing, and there are the people who follow that Pied Piper song, never thinking beyond the end of their noses.

This is going to be one of the chief contradictions as things keep going the way they're going, because neoliberal centrism was a belief predicated entirely on hegemony. It never had to defend or even present itself because, as Gramsci would describe it, it was "common sense". How many of you tried to talk to your parents or teachers about politics in the 90's and 2000's and got some variation of "it's the best there is", "everything else failed", "just how the world is", etc. ? As adults you were probably just exposed to slightly more refined versions of that, that's the entire output of Matt Yglesias, Tom Friedman etc.

Fukuyama was the only one who actually tried to systematize and write apologia for neoliberalism, and the (forgotten) last quarter of The End of History is about how if hegemony fails, the entire thing will unravel. Every other writer of note was just writing inane, triumphalist, pablum, from a position of hegemony. They have no predictive power, they don't even have theory. Go through those NYT bestsellers from the 90's, through 9/11 and the Iraq War in particular, leading up to the Great Recession, and then when they felt confident again, towards 2016. Things are the way they are because they're the best of all possible worlds, it's just common sense.
