The post that countblanc refers to? The novella? I think telling them save often, there's no wrong way to play, and that they can take healing items even after they've taken damage about covers it.

I would mention that you can run by double clicking, I don't remember if the game tells you that and if you've never played any similar click to move games that may not be obvious.

Basic mechanical stuff? Right clicking will highlight nearby things you can pick up / interact with. Sometimes whether something is highlighted is affected by your perception stat, or by held equipment. A coloured blob appearing above your head means that one of your skills has something to say - the colour just tells you whether it's a physical, psyche, intellect or motorics skill. Click it if you want to hear from them. Time only advances when you talk to people. Don't worry too much about the clock.

I would also recommend doing a once-over on how the thought cabinet works - that you can have more than one at a time being percolated on, etc. I've seen a few LPs where people just don't get it.

I can post out-of-context highlights from what the players are saying, like: "Can we finish this game without ever talking to that kid ever again?" "My wife can overhear the stream and is looking pretty mad about how racist this man is." "Kim might be willing to take a bullet for us, but we are willing to take a bullet for our best friend, a necktie."

Poor Things was mentioned previously in the thread, and I finally got around to watching it- it's weird. I can definitely see how people saw Disco Elysium in it, but the setting also has a smattering of Dishonored! Highly recommended!

Despite owning this game for years I'm just now getting around to actually playing it. Holy poo poo is it engrossing from the beginning. Love how it's decisions on how you think and feel about what's going on around you rather than purely external decisions like most RPGs. I'm playing 4/4/2/2 and empathy is my signature skill. It kills me that I failed to poo poo on that rich woman for being rich.

My teen kid is playing and I'm enjoying the way she approaches it. I told her she should play it after she was smitten with another game called "slay the princess" based in part on its internal greek chorus. She can't put it down. Somehow she seems preoccupied with getting gear and money, but still ended up with the Sorry and Communist Coptypes so far on Day 2. I'm providing parental guidance, but I remember the kind of poo poo I was playing at her age which was just as weird violent and troubling but had absolutely nothing to teach except "shoot demon man get red key card" and I turned out.... wait poo poo. Most troubling is that she doesn't seem to regard Kim Kitsurugee's advice or esteem very highly.

Sorry Cop makes a lot of sense given you spend most of the game discovering layer after layer of your incredible inexcusable fuckups, and a lot of the apologies are absolutely warranted. Kind of a theme is trying to figure out how to deal with your own bullshit without drowning in self-pity. I think Superstar Cop can sometimes be a bit of an act put on to cope with it, with some implication that you've been doing poo poo so ridiculous you can't take it seriously anymore, and encourage others to feel the same.Szarrukin posted:I always thought it was because his superiors being racist. A bit of both, probably. And Revachol being racist in general. Like how there's a whole reveal that Kim and the detective are only a single year apart in age, when they look like they could be a decade or two apart. In general I think it's more Kim has so aggressively wanted to put that part of his life behind him that he's lost the skills he used to have there- not to mention, being undercover is a very different role from being a uniformed officer, especially socially.

And then it transpires in later dialogue like the 'human can opener' that this is exactly what you're supposed to be like. Electrochemistry was wrong - it was never the drink and drugs that made you awesome, it was you all along. The fact that you can switch styles and forget thoughts in the cabinet meant I went through a sorry cop phase at first, and then became a sober legend for the rest of the playthrough. Everything about this game should be crushingly depressing, but it just has an incredible way of showing you that even in the bleakest situations there can be moments of hope, laughter, love and joy.

I read the point where Kim says to you "look you've got to stop apologising for everything if you are going to retain the authority to be a cop" as in part the game doing a little bit of 4th wall 'yes everyone is a sorry cop first time around, but you can legitimately try something else and it will still work'.
