Yes, there was a recent-ish season (32 I think) where 5 teams colluded basically the entire race. It was awful

Yeah the mine five. And on top of that once they got to final five: surprise! It turns out that there was a three team alliance within the five team alliance!

Hard to really come up with a rule against it. How could talking to another team be against the rules. It happens in some way in just about every challenge, with teams asking for directions to certain tasks in them.

In reality, it's a course that has multiple variations, would have prevented the teamwork entirely having a different puzzle / race course for each driver / car.

I think in a challenge like that where everyone is at a station it would be pretty easy to say you're not allowed to enter another player's station, which would be fairly easy to set rules and boundaries for. You could also disallow talking to people when they're in their station but that gets a little harder to litigate and idk what their resources are.

They could also say that once you complete a challenge you must leave the area. If your teammate can't help you, it should be pretty easy to say another team can't help you, either?

It seems some of the things they did last season which was filmed after this season was a response to this season, such as the forced public uturn votes.

Most interesting thing from the last one to me was that it seemed like most of the people who never welded before did a lot better because they had to actually pay attention to the instruction. Some sort of life lesson there that I refuse to learn.

I still don’t understand what the firefighters were even doing. Was their strategy to just drive aimlessly until they found the right plaza? They didn’t seem to ask anybody until they ended up in a restricted stockyard and even then the guys just said “no, this isn’t a plaza”

The implication to me they were just driving from place to place called "plaza" was very funny.

So when are the firefighters divorcing their husbands and marrying each other

Why did they think a plaza would be among shipping containers and whatnot? They kept saying "it should be right here", but I must have missed whatever made them think that?

... Are we watching the same show? He's a gaslighting rear end in a top hat who is constantly putting her down in the tone of voice men use when they think they are clearly smarter than the silly womenfolk. "I hope you learn from this experience, what you're doing to us as a team" is not something someone says when in a healthy relationship, nor is "you're making this so hard... and you're not trying to be any better". The words he chooses and the way he constantly says "you" are the opposite of what someone should say when trying to de-escalate or be understanding.

"Her thoughts are saying, you know, 'you're not good enough'" Gee I wonder why she thinks that.

this has to be the most unlikely collection of finalists the series has had in quite some time, i dont think any of these teams except maybe ricky and cesar make it out of the first couple episodes in a different season. sad to see mom and son lose, they were def one of the brighter spots in the season, esp due to their loss mostly being due to getting penalized for losing production

Production actually took responsibility for the mom and son. In the exit interview it was revealed their camera crew never showed back up although they knew where to go. Production had to get out an entirely new crew for them. I can understand getting lost on a roundabout but the crew would know where they're supposed to go. Mom and son took the loss in great stride but this is one of those things that I feel like should be a mulligan.

Hopefully they return in another season

They need to bring the mom and son back for another season, they were completely screwed over by that.

I also thought it was funny that production obviously planned on them having beautiful weather that day and imagined everyone just happily driving around with the tops down on their cars. Then a torrential downpour which seemed to really throw everybody off.

That is insane, I googled it and apparently it was an hour and a half they were waiting at the challenge before they got given a new crew!

It's really feeling super formulaic right now, very little movement and drama in most episodes. I haven't seen every season of TAR but this is feeling like it's in contention for the worst one, period. I know there were limitations from COVID but there's been a whole lot of stuff that isn't related that's just thrown stuff off for me. Maybe it's because it was filmed for 60 minute episodes so stretching them to 90 has made it too hard for them to work some magic to make everything seem closer or more dramatic than it actually was on the race itself.

At least it's about to be over and we can start anticipating the next one.

RandomHodge

Yeah I'd have to say this is my least favorite season in a long time; it probably doesn't help that we went back to a more "normal" show for 35, then back to the Covid variant. I also have no issue with Ricky+Cesar specifically, but one team just ruthlessly dominating with no real drama or tension doesn't really make for the best TV.

With Phil saying in the recap that Danny and Angie broke a rule, it sounds more like they were at fault for their waiting time. If they'd stopped immediately, they could have used the radio to get back together quickly; I assume it was the continuing on that broke the rule and then caused the need for another crew. This surely can't have been the first time a team has lost their crew in traffic, just the first (?) where it's made enough of a difference to need to be shown / broke a rule.

I love how hard the canyoning challenge was. I don't get why Cesar left Melissa though, if they were working together? And how she got basically all of them wrong on the attempt where he got it?

I really can't stand Vinny and think he's one of the worst guys to have been on this show. He couldn't even nicely point out that her shoe was coming untied, it was "I need you to tighten up that shoelace". At the start of the leg he was saying *she* needed to work on things, while looking at the camera, then she talked about what she needed to work on while looking at him for approval. "The tool's worthless", right, that's why all of the people who do this for a living use it.

Hey did you guys know Rod played sports??? "I haven't played baseball in a long time" dude you think anyone else here, all of whom finished way quicker, has played more recently than you?

Really weird that they had to go to the pink alleyway, then it was just get yourself to the pit stop.

Not a fan of this season at all. I at least like Ricky and Cesar and want them to win, it would be way worse if the constant winners were a mean team, but I'd like to see them race in a regular season.

Season 33, started Feb 2020, stopped Feb 28, then resumed Sept-Oct 2021 - https://amazingrace.fandom.com/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_33
Season 34, filmed May-June 2022 - https://amazingrace.fandom.com/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_34

Rod's height and strength killed him on that, and throwing a baseball is very different than throwing a football when it comes to release point. I'm not surprised at all that he had a case of the Knoblauchs on that one.
