Fought the skeleton pit boss. I almost died because I was laughing too much. Kill a big skeleton and piles of little skeletons bwahahaha gets me every time. I love skeleton silliness.

Got the stats to effectively sport the drangleic sword so that's my slash weapon of choice. I like the way it looks swinging over the bastard sword.

Definitely got the hang of the combat. Felt like I cheated the lost sinner boss by summoning havel 2: great shield boogaloo. He just ate attacks while I smacked the boss. Did light the torches which probably helped.

Lightning. It's insanely weak to lightning. If you can chuck lightning spears, go for it, failing that, resins will also help a lot.

Have you encountered another skeletal boss? If not, I'd encourage you to re-explore the area before that boss. It's completely optional so no biggie, but if you like skeletons, you don't want to miss this one.

I did notice another path in the foresty area in the zone. I plan to explore that next time.

It's arguably the "best" implementation of durability in that it makes durability actually matter...

Yeah but is it still linked to framerate and interactions with enemies? I seem to recall if you were running at 60fps and bonked a corpse it would shred your durability.

*edit: I guess not considering there's mods for the PC version to adjust it.

It was linked to frame rate, but certain weapons have multiple collisions per swing, which also affects them disproportionately to their durability. So, even if you have a high durability weapon it could be degrading way faster than its stats imply.

I liked durability because that meant if you happened to invade someone AFK, you can be a dickhead and toss Corrosive Urns at them to break all their poo poo

Durability has been fixed* in all versions of the game, AFAIK.

*There may or may not be some weird holes in the system still, but the general "60 FPS = 2x faster weapon breaking" has not been a thing in years.

Skeleton chariot wasn't as amusing as skeleton lord. Not very many skeletons, actual boss was horse breathing dark stuff. No match for the blacksmith hammer (always use strike vs skeletons, it's a rule). Having the chariot kill the skeletons was funny. I might try to kill off those tall guys with whip/pole just because they suck and they deserve it.

Onward to the next area which I assume has lots of poison swamp going by the fact the bonfire is in a cave guarded by a poison swamp.

Thank you, now I'm picturing it hauling hundreds of dancing skeletons.

Defeated a giant demon slug and headless snake lady. She threw her head at me then got a tail full of sword. Ladder bro told me about her so I was prepared for poison.

I now have two places to go: the pit in majula (thanks ladder bro) and iron keep. Which one has cool armor? I haven't upgraded any armor yet (wearing drangleic chest, royal sword hat) because I don't completely like the look. Looking for heavier stuff because big man smash.

I feel like I end up wearing some piece of armour from the iron keep most runs, I like the fashion of it and the enemies there have a high drop rate.

Not sure for armour, but Iron Keep has a cool boss weapon UGS if you're in big man smash mode.

Laddersmith Gilligan feels like the most DS2 NPC. Don't exactly know what that means nor able to explain why, so don't ask.

He knows the world's hosed so he's just making the best of it by making ladders that help people. I did buy his mini ladder because he seems nice. No clue what it does.

So far, vibes I'm getting from the NPCs are similar to DS1 except they all just know the cycle will repeat. Ds1 had hope that rekindling the flame would help. DS2 everyone seems to just know it's all poo poo and will continue to be poo poo no matter how many chosen undead are thrown at the problem.

Or at least, I don't remember them being that way...

If you find a boss soul weapon you want two of, use the ascetic to fight a second copy of the boss. Note that metal chests will not refill, so that's not an option, unfortunately.

there is a hollow in Aldia’s keep who drops two ascetics and respawns every time you ascetic Foregarden bonfire. So just save one ascetic for that (and one fragrant branch, the first time you find him he will be petrified) and you can farm up infinite ascetics at need.

Without getting too spoilery there's an endgame area with Aerie in its name that has a bunch of crystal lizards and other enemies that make for decent upgrade mat farming. Iirc there's an ascetic you can grab there each run too.

If you use magic, burn one for the Bonelords. You will get a ring that speeds up casting.

Also burn one for Freya for the awesomest looking sword in FROM gaming. Not a fake!
