Speaking of which the backstory to Megaton Musashi is absurdly dark.

99.9% of humanity was brutally murdered and the planet was literally cored out, and the surviving humans all live in a fake town in a space station with their memories erased because they were so horrifyingly traumatized that erasing their memories and letting them live in the town was the only way any of them could continue to function.

Its a fascinating project because like everything terrible in it we have on record was intentional and fought to be included.

So, Cromartie's a solved question. There's likely a game that channels LOGH but it's inevitably a real-time strategy and I'm terrible at those. Wild Arms drinks from the same water as Trigun, even referencing the latter. Berserk is taken by FromSoft.

What about Tutu?

After 11 hours of Eiyuden Chronicle, here are my thoughts

- it is absolutely a Suikoden game
- the translation/localisation is good
- the overall plot so far is pretty by the numbers, but..
- character writing is quite good
- bosses have been fairly interesting and challenging

It's great, and feels like a genuine throwback.

Infinite Space for the DS, part of Platinum's first big deal with Sega that put them on the map, and sort of the underrated dark horse of the bunch. It's a space opera with a janky-but-interesting battle system that makes it hard to define in terms of genre because there's nothing else quite like it. It feels exactly like playing through one of those long-running epic space opera anime, including having a cast that makes Suikoden look restrained.

EDIT: gently caress, beaten. Still worth a second recommendation, though.

Apparently harder than Infinite Space's combat model is that it's been trapped on a dead console for the past decade. I wouldnt hold out for a remake, so there's only the chance at least one developer out there rips it off.

Googling its developer "Nude Maker" for further information is not a worthwhile endeavor.

oh nudemaker was formed to make that weird eroge sequel to mikagura shoujo tanteidan after human entertainment died. weird trajectory, forming your eroge studio named nudemaker and then, only making one eroge before going into handheld and console video games

i have no idea how shin mikagura compares to the original as i have yet to play mikagura shoujo tanteidan yet but those games were pretty big in their time, four disc mystery solving adventure game goliaths with a lot of bonus side stuff

folks I’m looking for an American RPG but one without all that CARTOON bullshit. you know, where a piano falls on you and then you pop out of the piano lid and have piano keys for teeth. people recommend me Lisa, but is it gonna have any awooga moments? I recommend Bluey: The Videogame. Its more of a adventure game, and I know how the genre is viewed as only for shut-in weirdos who like to click on hidden things but hear me out its not just reading there are choices and some puzzles in this. The reason Im recommending it is it avoids a lot of standard cartoon tropes and has a surprisingly sweet story underneath even if it can be a little wacky sometimes.

Emulators exist and are the only way I could ever have played about 75% of the RPGs I've played. Not least because a fair chunk of them were never released globally and were fan-translated.

Yeah, but like 5 ships vs. 5 ships, not thousands of them. It is a space opera, but it's a very different kind of one than LoGH... though very much a game that deserves some attention.

disregarding societal perspectives, when you are not making the attempt to engage with the text and are writing for the purposes of entertainment you easily switch to making derisive jokes about elements of the material. these types of characters stick out and complaints about how they're written can without thinking on it much slide into mocking the character's behavior, as it is a noticeable trait. this is especially common when you are writing from a point of view where you are, from the outset, engaging with this as "bad media", you know it is not widely respected within the group you are writing for and thus making these sorts of jabs is not likely to be met with much criticism or pushback. in order to respect a story's depiction of personal hardship you have to be willing to respect the story at all and a lot of people aren't really willing to lend that much to their entertainment. in majuular's case i think he's perfectly capable of it but he's still got a bit of an online culture in him that promotes this sort of outlook and humor and it shows in some ways that can weaken his work a bit
