Why is there such an imperative to go to a Taco Bell cantina when there are probably 50 others in the ATX area along with a poo poo ton of non-chain Mexican/Tex-Mex

Soul Glo posted:bearcats are real? The name apparently started because they were playing UK in 1914 and some cheerleader started a chant where he called a player named Baehr a "Baehr-cat" to counter the wildcat chants or something. I don't think anyone in Cincinnati had ever heard of a binturong by that point. But binturongs rule https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tniytx0ow0

"Number of guys that went in the draft" is one of those things that I never see the value in. Everyone with more than five guys drafted will be in exactly the same spot in two or three years: a player or two that worked out and a herd of guys that fell out of the bottom of the practice squad.

Sure, but you can use it to belittle rival programs because they are dirt trash losers

ISU fans were all excited because a couple people had TJ Tampa as a first round pick. Instead he fell to the 4th round. I’d really love to have a first round ISU pick at some point.

Not too different from business school, law school, public policy schools touring how many alumni end up at McKinsey, supreme court clerk, or aide alto a DC critter. Only a handful do it but the relative performance seems to matter to applicants

That's kinda why I don't get it. I don't want to accuse others of being gullible, but sometimes you almost have to be. Look at how many running backs* we put in the NFL! Come play here! * one heavily broken Saquon Barkley

Yeah it is mostly a lagging indicator of a team doing well more than anything. If you really wanted a measure of player development or whatever, it would probably be better to look at actual NFL careers rather than draft spots. That said, it was nice to see a lot more players from Texas get drafted this year than they have been in recent history.

It's a lagging indicator but it's very good for measuring performance relative to expectations. Like, if a team has 10 players drafted but only won 7 games, what gives? Better have some strong mitigating circumstances because that's a pretty damning indictment of your coaching staff. Won 10 games with only 2 players drafted? You've got a team that's way more than the sum of their parts.

whos that broooown posted:Ohio State only had 4 drafted (because most of the good players came back) Yeah, having a big draft class seems like a good thing but it also means you lost a lot of quality players and statistically you’re very unlikely to be replacing them all with equally draft-worthy guys. Much has been made of Texas doing well in the portal, plus having a good starting QB returning, but I’ll be shocked if we don’t take a pretty substantial step back from last year when we’re basically breaking in a whole new receiver corps and there’s no more Murphy and Sweat making our DL terrifying.
