Indigenous huh? I have bad news for Karen. E: gently caress, me again? 216 is the number of times Britain has been invaded and had its 'dominant' enthicity overwritten.

Bobby Deluxe posted:Indigenous huh? Given that Gwynn means 'White' in a number of sort of indigenous British languages, I am not sure that the writer of this letter is unaware of the implications. People do write fake letters and always have. I remember fondly one that attacked the HMV store on Oxford Street for - something - and ended by asking what was wrong with good old 78's. It got published in the Evening Standard. But on the other hand Guavanaut has it right as well.

Guavanaut posted:That all stems from the BNP in the 2000s. They realized that saying "whites only" was putting people off, so they stole a bunch of Steve Biko's rhetoric about how "an indigenous people should not be dictated to by a foreign invader" and correctly summised that nobody considering voting BNP would ever have read any Biko. You can trace the tipping point to precisely when the BBC went from being protested with howls of outrage and huge crowds because they let Nick Griffin onto Question Time once, to Farage happily being platformed and even promoted on a weekly basis without much of a murmur. Edit: in fact - to go further. That aircraft crash he was involved in was absolutely a sliding doors moment. The Gods had a chance to choose destiny and they let him walk away. smellmycheese fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Apr 28, 2024 |

I'm going to take a wild guess that in this context 'pragmatic' means either coming up with reasons why improvement isn't possible or making sad noises while carrying on/expanding existing neolib policy.

The Particle Projector Cannon (or PPC) is an energy weapon, firing a concentrated stream of protons or ions at a target with damage resulting from both thermal and kinetic energy. Despite being an energy weapon, it does produce recoil. The lethality of the weapon rivals that of higher-caliber autocannons; just three shots from a PPC will vaporize nearly two tons of standard military-grade armor.

serious gaylord posted:There was a pretty good study released in either Feb or March I think which shows that almost uniformly everyone says the decade when they were in their 20's to 30's is the 'best' decade. Maybe it's because I'm a solid Millennial, but while I'm fond of the 00s for when I went to Uni and started living my life independently, etc, I kinda feel like the 80s or 90s were the best decade. When I think back on it, it's because there always seemed like there was something new coming out, either in music trends, media or technology, etc but things were also a bit simpler so those changes felt all the more wonderful. When I think of the 00s, I just think of smart phones, the start of samey music, post 9/11 global bleakness and the rise of social media. The Internet and globalism also got massive and suddenly the wonder of new stuff just began to evaporate because everything felt just as iteratively advanced as the last thing. Like, I struggle to remember many specific highlights from about 2005 to 2024, other than things like the tories getting into power, referendums on brexit/independence, the Xbox and shite like strictly taking over TV.

I always say the roundness of the year 2000 broke my brain, so now I'm stuck thinking it's "about the year 2000", which is true in millennium terms, decreasingly so for centuries, and definitely not for decades. But if someone was born in 1942 my brain immediately goes "ah, they're about 60 then" But it probably also has to do with my age at the time, and the blahhh of events from 2001 onwards, as you say. Then Covid totally broke my sense of time. A social media post I saw sums it up (adjusted to today): "Happy 1578th day of 2020!"
