I was fresh out of school and in my office in Bethesda when someone wandered by and said a plane crashed into the WTC. I figured they meant a little single prop plane had a bad accident or w/e. Then news started to trickle in and someone wheeled out a TV on a cart into the middle of the big common area so we all could watch. We saw the 2nd plane hit live and about 2 minutes later, corporate called and told us all to GTFO.

Traffic was nuts though with people driving on sidewalks and being general assoles so a couple of my coworkers and I just walked across the street to a restaurant/bar where we could at least drink and watch everything unfold on CNN in silence. If we were all going to die, at least we’d be drunk. At one point I was outside smoking a cigarette and a pair of fighter jets flew by overhead low and fast. Was definitely a weird day

Remember when a few years later an MLB player crashed a plane into a building in NYC.

it was like the 2nd day of sophomore year high scool for me, we got evacuated outside of the school after the first plane hit and about an hour after the second one we were evacuated home in school buses escorted by police. i just remember my mom and aunt freaking out and just playing bomberman 64 with my brother the rest of the night.

I told you that story so I could tell you this one...
I remember sitting in class and thinking, "man, I would give anything to get out of school today."
Then all of the teachers started going into the hallways to talk about what was going down?

And guess what?

They didn't even let us out of school! Those towers fell for nothing smh

I was in a coffee shop, running away from home when I heard the news.
Our hero, the world trade center, gone, vanished into thin air!
My dad must have been its biggest fan. I knew how sad he'd be. Heck, we all were that day.
"Zanar," I says to myself, "What are you thinking?"
I went running straight back home. We sat up talking 'bout 9/11 all night.

I'm in Australia but I had a regular catch-up with an old buddy from the pub where we'd go to the pub we used to work at on Tuesday nights to chat to folks and have a few drinks

Which is to say I was like 3 tequilas deep when the news came on the TV and we all thought WW3 was starting

We had more drinks after that

I watched the news all day and then ended up watching Scooby Doo around 11 PM because Cartoon Network was the only station that hadn't switched to news for the day

this is a mood but more so is when olds talk about getting to the airport like 20 minutes before your flight bc security is just basically a metal detector, being able to walk family and friends right up to the gate, being invited into the cockpit to watch the pilots...like wot the gently caress...fantasyland...

I recall some time after 9/11 I saw on a website the bio of a porn star which does the usual love the outdoors, best friend is my dog thing and then the sentence ends with "I am also a 9/11 survivor" and somehow that contrasting juxtaposition has stuck in my head but I don't remember who the star was

There was a really old post made on here years ago by someone who worked for the Mail on Sunday when 9/11 happened, and they basically said "yeah the Daily Mail people were running around like headless chickens while we were just like, eh, it's Tuesday, not our problem" or something to that effect

If anyone can find that post then I'd be grateful because the poster went on to describe working for MoS in detail and it was a lot juicier than I'm making it sound

There was a time you'd be a dweeby guy sitting in a plane and all the stewardesses would just do an unrehearsed dance routine then the hottest one pulls you into the mile high club and whisper "too high, can't come down" in your ear and tear off your face to reveal you were hot and blonde as well. when i was flying to vegas from jersey in the 90s the flight attendant let me and 2 other rando kids go to the cockpit to just hang out for a few minutes and watch them fly, then we got plastic wing pins

My English teacher was called out of the room to be given the news, and when he came back he was clearly shaken and then launched into a speech about how the world was about to become a darker and more challenging place, and 'the onus is on you to push back against that with positivity'

I mostly remember him pausing his speech to go dramatically look out the window, it was very Sorkin.

He never actually told us what had happened.
