I feel like Trickster is in a weird position were it would have been useful during the early game (when things are harder), and it might be useful in a future DLC, but as is it offers tanking-focused utility that just straight-up isn't necessary (and at the cost of personal damage).

Edit: it's sort of like if you had a dedicated healing vocation that could only heal - given you can get by just fine with the lesser heals of existing classes, it sacrifices dps for nothing (and I kinda of doubt its AoE buff can make up for the loss of personal dps).

...must attack and fall upon them with a gallant bearing and a fearless heart, and, if possible, vanquish and destroy them, even though they have for armour the shells of a certain fish, that they say are harder than diamonds, and in place of swords wield trenchant blades of Damascus steel...

I wonder if they took the weapon switching off the dagger classes because there’s no way fighter and warrior could keep up without a serious change to those classes’ design. But if that’s the case, instead of narrowly restricting what other classes can do, why not expand fighter and warrior? The class design has sort of weird restrictions where “strength” classes have to be the most grounded and realistic while agility classes can shoot 10 arrows at a time or do whatever helm splitter is supposed to be, but even in that context, why not let fighters throw plumbata or warriors having throwing axes or something?

In terms of positives, I do like some of the changes for fighters. The shield dodge that cancels out of stagger is really nice, and getting gouge from dd1 assassin should help against large enemies. I sort of get the feeling it won’t compare well in the end to thief or warrior, but it still has been a lot of fun to play.

Isn't it Gran Soren? Where did you see the Everfall? The Pawn Guild building is there and everything (with a Riftstone in it even) but there's no door to the Everfall.

Isn't the Mad Regent at the bottom of the ruined Everfall? It's the same architecture. Not the whole thing obviously but still.

Also lol that the game for all its reactivity doesn't really think you'll just Unmake the Colossus

Yeah it's Gran Soren. When I went up the elevator and found myself in the cells, I was like wait this is kind of familiar. Then I went upstairs, looked to the left out the front door, and was like :staredog:.

Also raise your hand if your reaction to recognizing the place was to check for a Seeker's Token on the windowsill behind where the throne would have been.

e: "Get on the dragon's back" huh

It instantly kills you by dropping you from the skybox in a second if you try lmao

No one seems particularly concerned about the doomclouds lol. I love that the dragon curled to protect you as you both crash as its last act though. This is so cool lol, I love how it goes "Don't like my narrative eh? Well gently caress you, don't have one." and now I have poo poo everywhere to do.

I love what they did with warrior in 2. I nailed an ogre perfectly on the chin with a giant hammer and the charged uppercut move, taking off a whole health bar and finishing it off. It was beautiful.

Oh, that part. Yeah, it definitely looks like the Everfall - not identical architecture or size-wise, but close enough to be deliberately evocative

That's so loving cool but I'll be damned if I'm going to download and install 3 separate things in order to get any of that working in the first place :/

But if someone comes along and makes a version of Mart's Monster Mod that adds a size randomizer and some textures to the existing mobs...I might consider learning how the gently caress to get all of this to work.

The Unmoored World is a nice way to mix up the Everfall rush from DD1. Instead of detaching and ascending from the world, you openly do not, so all the political bullshit you mostly didn't do anything about ends in a wet fart. The big evil villain in Battahl shrugs and moves on with his life and you help him save people. He didn't even take it personally and he takes care of your pawn! You two just talk about what happened and figure out how to try to unfuck things! It's such a nice inversion of what I was expecting, to never see any named character again and just assault through the thing. Though, the dragon statue bugged out and there was no rubble and instead the brine just yeeted me out of there lol. I bet Disa is similarly Not Mad, I sort of forgot about her and Wilhelmina. Also it's cool that instead of just being demonstrations on how the life of an Arisen can end, the Seneschal (just call the guy that goddamn) rallies the failed Arisen to go help, except the Warfarer guy I guess, he's a loser. Even the dragon was loudly telling you what you should totally do instead of following the plot - the fight happens because he accepts you're a dumbass and won't figure it out lol.

Also lol did Unmaking the Colossus just let it win a few bits of the post game for me? That's rad.

I still miss Feste in this time of need.

I feel like the part in the post game with the collosus was something they wanted to do more with but ran out of time/money. Your pawn suddenly gets sucked into a giant robot without explanation and can control it, but literally all you can do is watch the scripted fight from a mile away? That was pretty weak. At least let me participate in the fight if you aren't going to go all out with letting me control the collosus myself. It was a big cool cutscene that they clearly wanted in the game, but it's so tacked on that it just seems like there's supposed to be more to it that isn't present.

I never heard any of those and never got a map marker

But if you just walk up close enough to it things happen.

You stand on the cliff next to its head and something happens. Phaseus is involved so it might not work if he's dead, like say if he ate poo poo during the Bakbattahl event like he did in my game.

For me Phaesus was on the cliff but just hanging out doing nothing, for no apparent reason. Things triggered when I walked up to within melee range of the foot. There was no prior indication of a quest of any sort until the cutscene was triggered.

It worked this way for me on both the first and second playthrough.

It was weird for me. I had escorted Phaesus from Bakbattahl to the ruins before doing that quest. During the latter quest, it said "Follow Phaesus" and he just... wasn't there. There was a group of other robed figures but no Phaesus. I just hung out for a minute or two and then the cutscene played.

Owl Inspector
Sep 14, 2011

Phaesus wasn’t there for me at all. he had previously eaten poo poo during the events at bakbattahl but I had wakestoned him and know he was alive.

I think I read that the Talos thing can only happen if you kill it relatively quickly during the initial fight. Apparently it takes scripted damage at a certain point along the route and loses both arms or something?

Ruffian Price
Sep 17, 2016

Doesn't make sense to me because even if you get rid of all but one weakpoints quick you have to wait for it to reach a certain point - with two scripted events on the way iirc - until your final blow actually registers
...at least that's how it went for me

7c Nickel

Right, but I think there are like 4 places along it's route where it can finally stop.

I had the exact same experience, Phaesus just hanging there, no quest, no other indication, walk close and cutscene starts.

So which is it, did you acquit yourself poorly, or did you stand firm and let none best you? Listen, if nothing of note happened that's fine, you don't need to randomly make poo poo up every time you get back.

On the plus side, someone gave me a Finder's Token, which is quite a nice gift.
