So the 5 year State of the Environment report was released, Tanya had a national press club chat and as expected shits royally hosed. Sat on Susan Leys desk for 6 months and nothing was done about it. Can't go to the election with a report that damning evidently. Now libs are whinging about partisan finger pointing and Ley's spokesperson made some bum rear end excuse why it wasn't appropriate to release at the time and Tanya should just do what the experts tell her to, like the Morrison government did. On top of things the cuts to environment caused a huge backlog that lead to environmental approvals being late and taking over 116 days to get through. How poo poo do you have to be at running a government that not only are you rat loving the environment to oblivion, you also pull development to a screeching halt. snickothemule fucked around with this message at 07:27 on Jul 19, 2022 |

Work finally insisted on masks at all times. Except unlike last time everyone's still AT work - there hasn't been any announcement of lots of people going to WFH and do telehealth and send a lot of the workers out so the rest can spread out amongst closed offices. Hopefully that happens tomorrow, but who knows.

The biggest chunk of people's electricity bill is currently heating, of course, and he went on about how people just need to get used to being a little uncomfortable and we're all too soft. Then the article got to the part where he lives in Queensland.

The best part of it is completely missing the actual point here:quote:I now find myself a cog in the wheel of the official “transmission mechanism” of “monetary policy”, under which borrowers are squeezed like lemons to bring about a slowing in demand and price pressures the central bank deems appropriate. Everyone knows the spike in inflation is caused by supply issues (Ukraine war, covid in factories, climate change killing crops) and compounded by businesses gouging except the particularly stupid RBA board and economics writers. There is no evidence raising rates will do anything to help.

The off grid house we built is working well at these temps with sunny winter days. Stayed above 18 last night with no heating on in probably -4 outside in central Vic. North facing windows and insulatinled building envelope really works well. Mortgage is getting more expensive now but at least no power bills to worry about.

My apartment gets pretty hot in the summer, but I generally just run one of those Dyson fans and cope unless it goes over 35. Winter it stays perfectly warm which is a good deal on a morning like this one where I'm working from home. Can't imagine what it's like living in one of those new apartments or a new development with black exteriors/rooftops and poo poo woof.
