SE are going to be doing a combination of NA datacenter upgrade + load balancing to shift some populations around so they don't break the servers every expansion. EVERYONE that is on an NA datacenter (beginning from 2019-04-23 to 2019-05-06) will be allowed to freely (as in freedom) allowed to transfer to any server they choose, for free. (as in ZERO MONEY.) So, just chill for another ten days, then come to Excalibur.

Since we're getting the World Visit system implemented soon, it shouldn't matter as much that you get a character onto Balmung unless you wanted to join an existing Free Company there. You'll just need to move to one of the other worlds on the same datacenter.

It does suck we're losing Balmung because tired "ERP HURR HURR" jokes aside the raiders from there are usually p. good, mostly because they're usually RP loving lifers.

Balmung, like Moon Guard on WoW, has kept this reputation because a bunch of people rolled there earlier on as jokes to "troll the RPers" and their extent of contact was the one place on the server the weirdos gather in. Like, yeah, the Quicksand is gross and every 10th persons search message says they're a futa but the vast majority of that poo poo is contained in Ul'dah and player housing. Unless you go out looking to find trouble or mock people Balmung is just a really populated server that's always active, has a healthy economy and generally friendly people (especially after all the ones who were so bad they couldn't even find a niche on Balmung took the free transfer to Mateus to start their own community). Not to throw shade at Mateus players, but I was part of the community there when the transfers opened and there was a rush of RPers and I had an alt I helped my friends that had gone there set things up with, and in the few weeks I was there even with a community half the size it was way more raunchy and ERP focused than anything I've seen on Balmung. Like, there would be people in the Discord looking for ideas for RP free companies and every other one ended up deciding to make a brothel free company despite people being like "nooooo don't".

I had a character on Mateus briefly when I thought RP could be fun and can confirm every FC is brothels or Morally Grey Badasses Doing What They Have To and they all have names like The Yellow Cat or Black Helmet Mercenaries.

Alt crafter update: Hit 50 on a class, gonna pick up the 3 moogle daily quests instead of grabbing 3 low tier Ixal quests. To unlock I need... to do a bunch of moogle quests I ignored. Half the map of the churning mists is unexplored for me. More.. moogle quests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkUOACGtGfA E: The quests needed for it don't even have the blue cross on them.

Just do leves instead. You don't have to login daily and you get to actually craft instead of riding a dragon across the entire zone just to breathe on some statues.

if you're levelling all of the crafters regularly you're just gonna run out of leves. Moogle quests are good, especially for the awkward first 3 50s levels.

It’s more funny than anything else. Oh and Pocket Kouhai. Also everything is like half the cost on the market board from Excalibur.

Fun controller fact it took years for me to find out: if you're directed to select an item from your inventory for e.g. a quest turn in, you can hit the context menu button to bring up a list of applicable items instead of rooting through your inventory. I found this out far far far too long after getting Goddess of the Hand/Land.

Black mage is such a good job. God drat. I kept wanting to roll out as red mage so I can just slam Vercurses into my own face when the healers are asleep, but I'm hitting that BLM Zen where I just absolve myself of giving a gently caress. As long as I'm doing mechanics properly and beating the boss over the head with my MP bar, then it ain't my drat fault and I am free of sin. Also I had forgotten how satisfying Flare is.

Realistically, you have a single get out of jail free card for some mechanics, depending on which ones, with manawall. If that wouldn't save you from dying then nothing a healer does outside of keeping you topped off would do anything. Although it's good to roll out as red mage when you're learning content, the extra mobility and being able to scrape people up can really help. Then once you've got your side of the fight planned out you take blm in to show everyone how big your... foul... is.
