On a happier note, there was a PI thread a few years ago where a couple rescued a young (maybe a year old?) dog and found out a few weeks in that she was pregnant. They wanted to get her an abortion, but she was too far along. The thread devolved into puppy photos (the best kind of PI thread, imho) and all of them found homes. But that thread taught me that dog abortions exist, and whelping isn't fun for anyone.
