Honestly I never liked Bennett all that much. He puts out some pretty good cartoons every once and awhile but hes definitely mainstream Dem and doesn't want to rock the boat too much. He also puts out some seriously lazy cartoons sometimes. Also his artstyle is kinda generic / too clean / boring.

Those are the intake towers (this is the 'up' side of the Hoover Dam, the water is just very low). The Hoover Dam's big. It needs big intakes for the turbines and they decided to spread them out a bit. They're also designed to divert water around the dam if necessary (like a really bad flood), but they've never needed to be used that way after construction.

That said, yeah, the Half-Life dam is based on the Hoover Dam IIRC.

edit: vvvvv a lot of video game dams resemble the Hoover Dam because it is large and impressive-looking, though in New Vegas it was actually the Hoover Dam so I don't know if that counts.
