How tedious does ProjectXZone get? I've played both demos and it seems that the amount of fodder enemies isn't too high and with a good enough plan they die in one or two fights, so the only problem I can see with that is that I wouldn't be able to get EXP or XP after they're done - bosses are an entirely different matter, but the ones in the demo were dispatched easily enough with an application throwing all my dudes at them and hoping for the best.

I guess my main question would be:
1) Do I get many more attacks than in the demo? My teams all had 3 or 4 attacks unlocked with 6 slots visible - is it like Valkyrie Profile where I have more attacks than slots and have to choose, or are those 6 attacks all my team would ever know?
2) How long is the game? I've played some SRW games before and they can get uncomfortably long, and this seems to be made in a similar vein.
3) Are there more characters in the games than those shown in the demo?
4) I've obtained some items from the boss drops - is there a customization aspect to the game?
5) Are there obnoxious objectives like escorting NPCs, is it all "kill or be killed" missions?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Oh, and I heard that a sequel had been announced - would it be better to wait for that?

Project X Zone

I will say that I enjoyed Project X Zone, but I could in no good faith recommend it to anyone else. If you found the demos sort of tedious, then you aren't gonna enjoy the rest of the game.

1. Yeah, you do unlock more attacks as you level up.
2. I think I clocked at a little over sixty hours. I can't say that time is well filled.
3. Yes
4. Those are stat-increasing equipment, but they're anything interesting beyond compensating for you characters' weaknesses.
5. There is stuff like timed missions, but nothing that was too obnoxious.

Honestly, I would just wait and see how the sequel is received if you've got any interest.

I didn't want to kill the few of remaining enemies in the Demo A, this is looks hilariously bad, and with the way the game works (very limited counters, no skipping enemies' turns) it seems like it'd pad the much needed "hours to completion" feature a lot.

Thanks for the answers, I suspected as such. It seems like an okay game in short bursts, but I guess waiting for the sequel is the best idea now, even if it doesn't improve much, at least it has more characters.

Speaking of, they just announced some more characters for the sequel, including Phoenix Wright, as well as the first time someone outside of M2 has remembered Streets of Rage.

And honestly, that isn't even the most tedious part. The worst is when you have to funnel your characters through corridors in order to the boss, who will refuse to move. And least in the level in that photo you're constantly doing something.

Keep bustin'
The Project X Zone special edition suckered me into a day 1 buy, with a soundtrack CD that appeared to be a "greatest hits" of all the source games. The tracks were just ripped straight from PXZ though and sounded kinda crappy. And then there was the actual game to play. :negative:

MAYBE it's a little more bearable if I gun straight for the goal instead of trying to kill every enemy (well, in the missions that allow for that)? I think I'm like 17 chapters in. There's probably no point in trying to grind, since the "strategy" of every battle is deciding whether each enemy will take 1 or 2 turns to kill.

These were already answered, but here's my input:

1) Your characters get attacks for A and each of the four D-Pad directions + A, as well as a special attack that uses Cross Points (XP, not to be confused with exp), and a Map Attack (the game calls them Multi-Attacks) that also uses XP. Some Pair Units are naturally more useful for killing single targets, others have better Map Attacks, and a few of the pairs are noticeably better when it comes to building XP for other unit sets to use. Edit: Also, characters learn these additional attacks at different times, with some getting their Map Attack extremely early (Frank/Hsien-ko come to mind) with others getting their map attack late but their 5th normal attack pretty early.
2) 40ish chapters.
3) There are 20 pair units and 20 solo units, for a total of 60 characters (although pairs can't be broken up).
4) Each Pair Unit can equip one piece of Gear and one Accessory, and you get a ton of both. The Gear provides stat boosts, whereas Accessories can additionally provide protection from ailments, boosts to XP generated (good for those pairs I mentioned before that build XP better naturally), half XP cost for countering, nullify Zone of Control, etc.
5) I don't remember any obnoxious objectives besides the "too many enemies" to rout thing, and honestly most maps that didn't bother me much. What is kind of obnoxious is that the team gets split up several times during the game, which can and will break up your well planned Pair/Solo combos and potentially mess you up for comboing in fights until you get used to the new sets.

My play log says I put 80 hours in, but at least some of that was likely just idling while doing other things. The 60 hours mentioned before is probably more normal.

I guess I'll have to wait for a price drop or maybe some bargain, the game seems like a lot of fun in smaller ones, so as long as I know what I'm getting into, it's fine. It doesn't seem to have dropped off in price, either - at least for carts, but the eShop price is lower; still, I wouldn't be able to resell digital version. Oh well, nothing to do with the thread - thank you all for help and answers.

Beat Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and it's way better then then I expected. Cute funny story, cool battles and great 3D effects. I'd say it's the best M&L game even with the excessive tutorials.

No, that guy only does the original model from what I know and he adds extra bulk to the 3DS; I sent mine to Japan.

SeANMcBAY posted:

Basically what you'd expect a 3DS game to look like stretched out over a 47" TV, not the best but you can filter it to smooth it out a bit so it'll look a lot nicer. You also get a ton of in-program options to display it how you want, you can do just the top screen, or even side-by-side so you can play poo poo in 3D on your TV if you have a 3D TV.

edit: You can also play poo poo with an Oculus Rift if you have one.

There's some SLIGHT bowing on the bottom but you can't really see it without really looking, I can get a picture of that later. I have no clue how, or what the gently caress they put in there but it must of been really small.
