This is why a Biden or a Harris presidency would be as bad as a Trump presidency. Same oppressive march towards collapse but now 200% more decorous and ignorable. A lot of people who hate Trump hate him precisely because they don’t want to pay attention to current events and he forces them to hear about them nonstop. People don’t like cruelty but they like the stuff they get out of it (talking your massive ‘energized’ suburban masses here that we are supposed to accept as the most important part of the democratic coalition). They want somebody who will keep the filthy bloody gears of empire grinding away but also let them ignore that it’s happening.

I’ll be voting Bernie in the primary but if my choice come a year from now is toothless dem or trump again I’ll sigh and vote for the side that might at least slow down progress towards me and my friends being shot in the street or thrown into camps for being gay or transgender rather than shrug and not vote at all

Yeah, that's the key thing about Pence - he was so bad a politician that he was all but run out of Indiana as a conservative Republican. He was only available to be Trupm's VP because his political career was effectively over (this was back in the day when it looked like Trmpu was a sure loser for the Republicans).
