As people post more and more black metal in a thread that I note is not the very active black metal thread, I do wish they would stop doing that. Also, some posters should stop defending Nazi bands, ironically or not. That is all. In the spirit of cooperation and unity, here is some power/folk metal I enjoyed recently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB1NYnHlkyg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5Vjaktu5NE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ayPgEe5u44 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE99vXM2-lE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agdc48fK_-4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8BZVRoGMeU

meta talk of posting behaviour is whats the most boring thing to read i could think of, especially if it's not in any way funny. i've started compiling a summer metal playlist, i want like uhh light metal, uplifting poo poo, montage stuff etc. but without resorting to straight up AOR. i'm gonna blast that poo poo when i drive around the countryside in the summer

I tend to forget the black metal thread exists half the time tbh, I know not everyone likes black metal but that's true of every subgenre. I don't really like much power metal myself, the vocals aren't my cup of tea. A band I do like is Horrendous, I was just listening to them. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pUMT38YMFcA

On a tangent away from metal, at some point during their career, Sieges Even went from great tech/prog trash to great prog rock/metal-ish. I highly recommend The Art of Navigating By the Stars if you haven't checked it out and are into prog at all. I'm not and I still like it quite a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt3zybpDfZ8

ShoogaSlim posted:Do you guys ever talk about Slam Death Metal like Analepsy and Abominable Putridity here or should I just stay my narrow-minded rear end in the -Core thread? There's a time and place for slam. It's hard to put up with for more than half an hour (which is probably why the albums are usually around that length). Katalepsy are probably the best band doing it right now (or Defeated Sanity, but they're a bit more left field).

ShoogaSlim posted:Do you guys ever talk about Slam Death Metal like Analepsy and Abominable Putridity here or should I just stay my narrow-minded rear end in the -Core thread? Pretty much all I listen to is brutal / slam death metal. One of the better recent releases is Organectomy - Domain of the Wretched. So good. Happy to see a physical release for this coming out in a couple of weeks. Obviously the new Within Destruction is in heavy rotation ("you guys ain't slam!"). Necrosadist also has an excellent disc out. Vocals on that one are nasty. Others I've been playing a lot: Fatuous Rump's new disc, Gutter Meat Clitter, Inseminate Degeneracy, Gutrectomy's new one, Gastrorrexis and Signs of the Swarm. It's pretty much the only genre I don't get bored with after a couple of months. Give me some grunting Jabba-the-Hutt toilet vocals, minute long horror / sci-fi samples, caveman guitar slams and snares that sound like an empty Pringles can and I'm happy.

I love slam. It's unapologetically ridiculous and I actually love the sound of it too. I could listen to Molesting the Decapitated by Devourement all day. Trash can snare for life!

Seeing Devourment just after Ruben Rojas took over vocal duties again in a tiny basement Chicago club is one of the best and most sick sets I've ever witnessed.

I already knew that the tough-guy hardcore I grew up listening to wasn't "good music" and didn't care, but only since getting more into slam have I been able to evaluate it as similar to enjoying horror films. They both only really seem to exist to fulfill a singular purpose and are extremely niche, but something about the aesthetic of it all appeals to me greatly. Kinda bummed a lot of these albums don't have vinyl releases. Buying compact discs feels so passé. Stoked for vinyl to arrive from the bands I mentioned originally. It's super fun knowing you have music on physical media coming overseas from Russia and Portugal.

Though it's kind of strange to assosciate them with slam because they don't use any slams in their music. I mean I'm not one of those subgenre nerds but they're definitely not even close.
