I think Wyald is really important. The eclipse is absolutely too crazy to go into without Wyald's completely ridiculous monster design as a warmup. I also think Skull Knight is very important, and my favorite. Otherwise, you're left with only Zodd who just looks like a minotaur, not an eldritch abomination. It's hardly more magical than the plain-looking pouch of fairy dust. The old anime never got the slug apostle, but at least it had the snake apostle. That's a pretty good bit of foreshadowing if you can remember it from the first episode until the very last episode.

 I think Wyald is a really good apostle for Guts to kill first. Even the characters in the story universally hate him so much. He's a perfect scumbag to follow up the ominous honor and nobility of Zodd. If you cut out the dick part of his character, is it really so rude to keep him in the adaptation story?

Not every mangaka can keep their actions and speech bubbles synchronized. They might put action at an awkward angle just because the wrong character speaks first and therefore needs to be on the right side. It's usually fine unless the fighters like, wear the same uniform or something

The arc afterwards, Misty Valley, kind of sets the tone for the rest of the manga. Incredibly sad and bloody, but with some happy parts here and there.
