If that crank nose thing would have been a real issue involving anything past poor maintenance work, it would have been mentioned a lot earlier. I think even the B3 from the Festiva and the B6 SOHC from the 323/Familia/everything have the same crank design and you don't see the millions of those sitting in yards with busted crank keyways. (I've seen a few but not many).

Maybe it's because people actually give a poo poo about their little Miata friend, whereas the payday loan clients who still own 323s are driving them into the ground before replacing them with a buy-here-pay-here 2001 Cavalier? :v:

I'd blame both the widespread knowledge of the issue as well as the improper servicing done to create the issue on Miata owners. Miata owners seem to DIY maintenance on their cars a lot, and that issue is exacerbated hugely by less than stellar control of torque on the crank bolt.

Note on the 4 B6 timing belts I've done, I never changed the woodruff key nor the crank bolt. Never had an issue. I do however lock the crank, use a torque wrench, and make sure the keyway is clean and the key fits perfectly.

I have a shortnose crank from a JDM B6T (nothing special AFAIK), is it worth putting on eBay? It'd need to be resurfaced since it has some light rust, but the engine had FOD and was otherwise scrapped.

I've been on the hunt for a NA6 MazdaSpeed clutchpack LSD for my 323 GTX, and found what kinda looks like one on Croooober. Anyone familiar with them and can confirm if it truly is one?

Also anyone install a megasquirt on a stock mazdaspeed miata? I pulled the tps sensor to test the terrible ecu and now I want to just bypass it altogether. I am in the bay area if anyone knows a good tuner/dyno too

Standalone engine management is not a fix for broken stuff. I also don't think you can get accel/decel enrichment working without TPS signals. Unless you mean to have a standalone to get rid of the sock ECU? THe MS PnP seems pretty nice and gives you plenty of ability and doesn't require a new wiring harness. Plus you can just put the ECU and MAF back in for smog and you're good to go.

Plates stay with the car in California, though you just specify it didn't have plates when you bought it, they dig in the drawer at the DMV and you accidentally get plate number 1GAY420.

The rubber seal should come on a Gates pump. The woodruff key should pop off with a tiny tap with a punch, try some penetrating oil. Its really the same as the DOHC 323 B6s except the tensioner is different? I think you can just thread some bolts onto the timing gear and use a prybar or puller. Again, differential heating may be key.

Anyone have a B6 head they want to sell me? I pulled the head on my B6T 323 Wagon to check for cracks, and dropped the drat thing and trashed the gasket sealing surface. I have HLAs and cams, just need a head. Even a machined and ready one, I'd pay more for!

um excuse me posted:

The junkyard head I slapped on is an Escort GT head. I had to change the EGR route, lop off a few extra mounting points, and plug an extra heater core port.

I did almost the opposite, both of my B6T powered cars (323 GTX and swapped 323 Wagon) have Miata heads.

Maybe? It doesn't help me that this is all that I can find on the oiling system.

Oil comes up through a restrictor into the head, and passes along the oil gallery to the HLA feeds and the cam bearings. Check the restrictor, and you can sometimes take out the plug in the head to check said gallery, also a place to check pressure delivered to the head itself.
