I just went to the Atticus Metal Tour last night and the opening band was Stray from the Path. I had never heard of them before but they blew my mind and I'm currently really digging their sound. What's the general consensus of them around here? I feel like more people should hear about them.

So, any tips on going to a concert yourself? I've never done it before. Is it considered loserish?

I go to shows by myself all the time. It's a lot of fun. You usually end up meeting quite a few people since there's always an obvious common interest. Just wear a familiar band shirt, comment on somebody else's that has good taste, and take it off from there. I like going to shows by myself because I'm not held back by anyone and can just bumrush right to the front stage.

Misery Signals hasn't written a single bad song. All their albums are different, which makes it tricky to get into each one since you have to expect something different each time. I listened to them before Controller came out, so when I first heard it, the album took me a couple of listens before it clicked and I realized how brilliant it was. The only thing I don't like about their second album is the producing. It's a little too distorted and loud. Despite that, the song 'The Failsafe' is one of my favorite songs of all time. The breakdown in that song makes me want to hurt things.

Also, someone introduced me to this band earlier in this thread and they need another plug in case some people still haven't checked them out, they are loving amazing and deserve more widespread recognition. Listen to Elitist: http://www.myspace.com/theelitistband

I don't really know. Personally I am an irredeemably huge fan of Emmure and their new album so far has been pretty rocking and grooving to me. They put on fun shows and generally have a good energy to them. Sure they aren't doing mad crazy riffing like Animals as Leaders, but I don't expect them to. Sometimes I like simplistic fun stuff, and Emmure fits that category perfectly.

Can any of you guys help me find my "ideal" band? I've been listening to whatever-core for a couple of years, and as much as I love the genre, I haven't exactly found a band that fit within these certain boundaries:

In short, I'm looking for some group that is equal parts super harmonic with lots of interesting melodies and cool harmonies, but also have ridiculously heavy breakdowns. In terms of the former part, bands that come to mind that fit that bill are groups like Counterparts, or Elitist. Lots of minor ninths and stuff.

As for the second part, I like stupidly heavy breakdowns, like Despised Icon, The Ghost Inside, and what not.

I think the closest I've found is probably An American Shootout, a loving awesome band that not enough people know about :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rKQ2NrIdCE

Unfortunately it wants me leaving a little more on the harmonic aspects and the production quality is pretty poor. August Burns Red also comes close to fitting that bill, but they're too mathy. Counterparts doesn't have enough breakdowns. I love all these bands, but I'm trying to find the one that hits all those points. Anyone have any clues?

It was an incredible experience to say the least, the new songs absolutely tore it up live.

Edit: For some reason this made me want to go listen to 7 Angels 7 Plagues. I had never noticed this before: in the lyrics to Someday, there's the line: "Tormented by my every undying devotion to you," which is also in Nothing off Controller. The Ocean: Atmospheric, which doesn't really work in the Palladium. Interesting to watch but perhaps ill-suited to the venue.

Cattle Decapitation: Competition drumming with accompaniment. Perhaps the most flaccid performance of the night, while I'm into more death metal than hardcore, they were boring and unengaging.

Unearth: Killed it - worked the crowd really well, which probably isn't hard for a hometown show, played sharp, and despite the poor acoustics/sound, they managed to highlight the transitions, perhaps by having their sound guy boost the sound a bit during breakdowns, but they weren't a blur like the later bands. Hell of a show as always.

I was at that Worcester show too, pretty much perfectly captured my thoughts on these bands. Overall I was a little let down by Summer Slaughter this year, there felt like there was something missing from the crowd. On the other hand, the South of the Border tour was loving fantastic.
