Nice clouds.

Went to Guam and it was awesome. I was very surprised by what the Olympus TG-5 delivered once the RAWs were processed. Unfortunately I lost the reds in the shots were the subject was a bit farther away.

You need to share the image url not the page where it's hosted. They don't let you right click to get the image URL but you can get it from the share menu if you choose the embed option, then pick the BBCode button below the text box.

Embedding BBCode works wonderfully on another forum, but SA has always given me trouble with that option. Oh well, people will just have to click the link or miss out on mediocre images.

Why not just host somewhere else?

That would the best solution, but SA is the only forum that has this issue, so no. Sorry for the derail, let's get back to our scheduled programming.

It's because zenfolio is poo poo, they don't offer SSL in 2018 which is some hilarious incompetence on their part.

I think what's happening is the bbcode embed they offer is syntactically fine, but there can be issues with an https configured site (like SA) requesting urls over http. Browser tries to default to https, zenfolio is all "wtf is tls?" so the browser is all "uh gently caress no you assholes" and refuses to load the image.

I googled this a bit more, and they are scheduled to make the switch in July 2018. Better late than never.

its overly saturated and messy when it wants to be clean, tight and most of all, simple. Why is the rubbish in the shot, the crane, the house thing on the right, the boxes on the wall, the bin. That little dot above the wall but below the clouds. If you needed that house thing on the right, why didn't you kneel like 3cm lower and get rid of that small bit of red wall, just leaving the timber and having it be less distracting and more fitting.

Kneeling lower would have killed off the islands in the far background.

Edit: Oh that? Never mind, yeah I think you are right.

Not trying to start a flame war, but can color saturation be quantified? Overexposure and underexposure can be seen in the histogram. But how do you see oversaturation?

I'm wondering then why my photos look less sharp than what's generally posted in the landscape thread. I shoot around 1/100, f11, iso 100 with a Nikon D5300 and Sigma 17-50 2.8. I try to make sure I use a good focal distance to get foreground and background in focus. Perhaps they post process in Lightroom better or have better sensors?

If we are discussing off-the-beaten-path vacation pics, I would like to trow my personal favorite into the mix. I was in Guam last year, and it was text book snorkeling every day. I often ventured into deeper waters as I am quite comfortable there, but I almost poo poo my pants when I first saw the outline of this contraption. I eventually realized that it was a thing designed to encourage the growth of coral.

First and foremost, do it for yourself. Others may or may not like it. This may or may not matter to you.

Edit: I am doing it because most of my family lives a continent away, and photographs are a much better way to explain the adventures I go on.

I too dislike selective color. It is either insulting to the viewer (I can figure out what the subject is without you literally pointing at it) or a testament to a photographer's lack of skill to frame the subject through proper composition/focus.

But, well, you know, that's just, like, my opinion, man.
