I've moved to San Francisco and am doing a lot of walking. My walk to class is up and down both Russian and Nob Hills. After a couple days of walking, I discovered that if I continue to use my Timbuk2 messenger bag, my spine will collapse into a ruined heap.

I've resorted to stuffing the messenger bag into an old MEI internal frame pack. Not only is this a pain in the rear end, but it makes me look like a hobo.

I'm looking for a backpack that can hold my laptop (a 14" thinkpad), some miscellaneous other stuff (water bottle), a tripod, and (in a pinch) my Olympus 35mm SLR and lenses (tiny) and my Pentax 67 with handle (large).

I'm looking for something with a padded hip belt, if not a full suspension, as I'm going to be doing a lot of walking. I'd prefer something that costs $250 or under.

Currently I'm looking at Tamrac's Anvil packs, Lowepro's packs, and a Paxis pack. If there are any other good integrated packs I should be looking at, I'd love to hear about them. A lifetime warranty is a bonus.

The other option is getting something like an Osprey Anti Gravity backpack (apparently they've got AG daypacks coming out soon) or a Photobackpacker pack and putting a DSLR divider system in it. I tried an AG pack at REI the other day, and it was as comfortable as everyone who reviews them says it was.

Basically I need opinions from anyone who has a backpack they like that holds a laptop and large, heavy cameras.

Also, and semi-related, what're some good straps for holding my Pentax 67 (which weighs about five pounds with lens) comfortably? I just bought strap lugs for it, but I'm not sure the old Optech I found in a box is going to work out.

I picked up an older Dakine sequence (http://www.amazon.com/DaKine-Unisex-Sequence-33L-Backpack/dp/B00AL8GUNM) a few years ago for $50 used and it holds all my 4x5 stuff comfortably while walking. I bet you could stuff a laptop in there as long as you got creative with the dividers.

I was looking for a messenger bag that could carry a 13" Macbook Pro and my X100t and happened upon this super cheap Lowepro on Amazon for $30. So far it's served my purposes well, considering the price (I was going to get an ONA Union Street...). Not sure how waterpoof it is, the fabric is fairly thin, but it's lightweight and has padding where it counts. There's also a black version if grey/orange isn't your thing.

It's down to $20 now, I bought one just because.

I bought a 20 on release and it was pretty big. I could easily carry a gripped D700, 3 Nikon primes, and my Hassie with room left to spare. I found the padding to be a bit bulky for every day use though.

Looking for a strap for a 35mm rangefinder. Looking for something adjustable with minimal markings / logos etc. I really like the TAP & DYE leather straps but they're like $200. Anyone have one they really love?

http://www.dsptch.com/collections/sling I really like these straps, not leather but they are pretty minimal and you can use them as neck-straps or slings.

Does anyone have any messenger bag/briefcase recommendations for hauling a DSLR around with your daily needs? Preferably something that has a laptop compartment (at least 15"), room for a DSLR with a smaller/average lens (eg 28-75mm), a few 8.5x11" papers, and odd pens, phone, ID card, etc.? Basically, I want a bag that I can throw all my normal work stuff in, but also carry my camera with me so I can take it out if the mood or circumstances strike me.

I was looking at this Tenba bag, but was wondering if there was something that was a little larger/slightly nicer and more robust. Reasonable waterproofness is a concern too. Willing to spend up to $200 or so.

If you are just gonna carry one camera and a lens or two get a timbuk2 messenger and a camera insert or wrap.

I got that $20 lowepro bag linked a page or two back. Pretty good for $20 but I can already tell where its gonna fail if/when it does.

My five year old lowepro small messenger has surprised me. The corners are worn through but no failure yet.

Can anyone recommend a small padded (thin) case for the XT-1, 27mm pancake, and 2 spare batteries? I want it to be as small as possible. I was looking at the Lowepro Dashpoint 20 on Amazon, but I'm afraid it's just a tad too small and the 30 looks too big.

Think Tank also has options that are good. I use this https://amzn.com/B0069S2H8K on my belt at weddings to hold a couple of lenses, it will easliy fit an XT-1. It has only some padded dividers that are removable and one padded side (the belt side).

I just got an X-T1, what is everyone's favourite strap? The one that comes with it seems a bit average.

Also will the Tenba BYOB 7 fit the X-T1 and another lens? If not what are some alternative dividers?

This is the strap I have used on all my Fujis, including the XT1 I owned for like a month.

I'm in a similar situation. I have a Hasselblad V-series and just got the large 140-280mm zoom lens as a Christmas gift. It's a foot long and 4.5 inches in diameter at the front end; while there's an available carry case for the lens, mine didn't come with it, and for my purposes a second case just for one large lens is a bit impractical. What I'm looking for is a case that can carry the body, the large lens, three smaller lenses, a light meter, and extra film. It needs to be able to stand up to being crammed in amongst a lot of climbing and camping gear as well.

Pelican case maybe?

I got the Dakine Sequence 33L over the summer and loving love it as a day hike pack.. the straps on it are miracle territory because it feels weightless with it loaded on your back. It can hold my Tamron 150-600 attached to the body, along with my smaller lenses (10-20, 18-55, 70-200). There's even some room left for my filters.

The backpack design seems weird at first (access to the interior is via a zipper on the panel that rests against your back) but it makes some sense after you get into using it.. you can drop the bag on the ground and get to your stuff without getting dirt all over the parts that touch your body. It doesn't technically have a way to carry a full size tripod, but it's not hard to use the snowboard straps to come up with a usable setup.

Added bonus is the camera compartment is held in with velcro and is easily removable, which means you can stuff your clothes into the backpack and check it in for an flight and bring your camera as carry-on. Then you get to your destination and stuff all your clothes into a drawer at the hotel and use the bag for hauling your camera.

Does your sequence not have this little loop?

Mine's an older model and am 90% sure that's designed to hold a tripod. It isn't very good at it though, I usually tuck mine through the compression straps on the side. Otherwise super good backpack.
