I mean I should've mentioned I'm mostly talking about the designs. While there were obviously witches and wizards and people with oversized swords in the original they would wear modern clothes and such. It just seems weird to see a lady with just straight up fantasy witch robes and a classic magic staff in the Troubleshooter setting is all. Edit: I should really go back and play the Troubleshooter post-release content and DLC at some point, but I feel like if I tried to figure out what the hell I was doing with my Mastery Grids I will go insane. Of course the best part of the troubleshooter 2 party make up, is based off of very little evidence, it seems like they are going to double down on the WLW. Archer and barbarian. Witch and gunslinger. Great combinations. And maybe Ryo will move pass whatever his attachment with Kylie is and hook up with Yuri for the yaoi likers too. (Those two are actually returning characters, they weren't party members though)

the problem is that all of these choices just kind of dump anything that was cool about the cartoon. i don't exactly care that kerubim has anything special going on but i do think it's boring that "he adopted joris and through his relationship with him realized some stuff about himself and became a better person" turned into "he adopted joris as part of his sacred knight duty that he has sworn his life to and actually him adopting him has been about protecting him from his evil mom nobody mentioned until just now". the cool part about the dofus cartoon was all of the serious plot stuff mostly being focused around kerubim being kind of a loser who failed to maintain any of his relationships with the people he grew up with and how he struggled with a gambling addiction for most of his life that he had to go through hell to overcome, the movie shoots so hard from low stakes character stuff like that to the biggest plot ever that it mostly immediately makes everyone involved really boring. losing simone kind of feels emblematic of that because simone's entire thing was being a pretty regular person who just had a good head on her shoulders, in contrast the movie doesn't really feel like it has room for anyone who isn't ultra super special in some weird specific way and because of that it's much harder to connect with anything about it

Played a little further in Lost Eidolons, and the budget spigot for cutscenes seems to have dried up quite a bit. However, the levels are still interesting. I feel like the interface for managing your chars in camp is a little noisy and overwhelming, but in play things seem much less complicated than something like Engage or Three houses. On the other hand, it was VERY interesting seeing that we could buy consumable grenades that hit a 3x3 area. Writing isn't anything special, but our heroes are fairly likeable and I feel invested enough to get through a couple more levels after work tonight.
