i still love that the origins of shadow hearts go back to the guy who composed the music for secret of mana getting upset over how he didn't think jrpgs were mature enough anymore so he wanted to make a super dark and hosed up one

so is the plot actually any good or did it turn out exactly how you would expect a game founded on the premise of being dark and hosed up to turn out

ys 1 had some bad parts (most bosses, having to backtrack down and up 5 floors of the last dungeon through a maze) but overall it was pretty fun and a nice break from modern games to the old school design where theres no tutorial and you just jump right in. plus it was over before i could really get tired of it.

dark fact sucks in every way though. i played on normal and he was a pita im so glad i didnt do nightmare

the best lines are all worse and the ye olde englishe is unnecessary and annoying. also one line has different context that changes delitas characterization which is lame

i dont remember the plot of 1 at all beyond "she was pretty annoying in the cutscenes"

i hated the 12 year old with the terrible character design way more though. god i still remember him. he sucked.

edit: actually i think there was a lot of shion hate in xenosaga discussions? pretty much any character whos acts less than perfectly or has doubts or is weak ever inspires massive hate

persona 4 isnt even particularly progressive given that every scenario ends up with the character accepting the status quo

characters and interactions dont just pop out of the ether, those are things that the writers choose to put in their game. given that there are people playing the game who are gay/bi/etc those things should only be there if there's a good reason for it. "cheap laughs" are a bad reason

oh my recollection was that necron was the back half of the mist-making apparatus you shut down earlier in the game (the iifa tree being the front half that exudes mist) and you're fighting him because kuja's ultima attack kills your whole team and you're trying to stop him from processing your souls

i'm gonna be honest here, i'm reading the VC2 lp and if it wasn't for some absolutely terrible gameplay mechanics (loot for individual upgrades allocated to random characters per map, half the classes being useless, split up maps, low squad size) i would probably play and enjoy this game. VC is at its best when its dumb, goofy cutscenes interspersed with war maps and at its worst when it tries to be philosophical and serious, so setting it in anime high school during a civil war seems like a good direction

the problem with the tank is it cost 2 cp to use and you could only shoot once, killing one enemy, which any of your infantry could also do, so you only used it for edge cases like you needed some mobile cover or destroying a far off barricade that you couldn't reach with a unit. i think i used it under a dozen times in the entire game, which is kind of unfortunate given its half your upgrade tree. i think they could have fixed it if they toyed with the cp cost - like maybe make moving cost 1 cp and shooting cost 1 cp, or have it vary between 1 cp and 2 cp with every activation.

edit: actually that might be an exaggeration, now im remembering it had the splash shot which was good if you had a fortified position with crouched enemies behind cover you needed to break up. still, most of the time it wasn't needed which is kind of too bad
