Here's a romanian band that I've heard of recently. They've been around apparently for quite some time, at least at some point playing death metal, which can still be felt in their latest songs. This songs combines quite nicely folk and rough(er) metal. I found myself listening to their stuff quite often in the last few weeks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCoh2ibRVK4

While this video is the most "professional" one that they have (that I know of), there are quite a few unofficial ones out there of other (better) songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la6O-JIbP3g
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-bbtYaY_c

They have a bandcamp page as well (https://bucovina.bandcamp.com/) and quite a few unofficial youtube clips. I am not affiliated with them in any way. I do like them, and I am Romanian. But that's the extent of my "affiliation".

Today I have rediscovered Motörhead's Orgasmatron. On Spotify, it just popped up as a Sepultura cover. I haven't heard that song in 25+ years, and it brought back memories. Couldn't stop replaying it.

It was a dark time in Motörhead's history when it was released, but it still holds, in my opinion, as one of their best songs ever, even if not quite on one of their best albums.

Speaking of disco, did Dave Grohl release that metal/trash album of his? I looked online but there's nothing after Feb 17th.

I saw Sabaton and Kreator back in ... ages ago. I love them both, but yes, it felt a bit strange to be honest. A fair bit of people present were mainly there for Sabaton (headliners).

What's the thread's opinion on Lorna Shore ? I, personally, don't quite stomach them. As a bad opinion as that is ... I'm sticking to it. And that MOP is definitely better than RIP, but holy gently caress both of those are top of the pop albums. Oh, and I prefer Kreator's Coma of Souls to Pleasure to Kill , though Gods of Violence has some very good bits as well.

edit - it's almost like they listened to a bunch of Ghost and like... other stuff.. and went in the studio. I dig it

ok fine, i'll take a look. Saw them live a bunch of years ago opening for someone (Iron Maiden? Metallica? forget who) and the sound mixing was awful. Didn't dig them at all.

edit: I made it to the 5th song. Including "Nobody" and "We love you" with the highest play count on spotify. I apologize to the sound engineer of the concert I've been to. They do sound awful, even in the studio. I can't take it anymore, 5 songs is enough.

would metallica have stayed better for longer had cliff burton lived or was the fame or the meth or the ego or whatever writing already on the wall?

No, i don't think so.
While he had immense influence of the band, he didn't have that much writing credit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Songs_written_by_Cliff_Burton

My take (supported by nothing) is that we would have had the same arch. Metallica just grew older, wiser, greedier. Neither Burton or Mustaine could have changed that.

On the other hand, they're still great musicians. Fantastic shows. Last one I saw was in 2017 or 18 or so. Not going to this year's tourney since gently caress paying $800CAD for 2 nights. But i've been to about 10 or so Metallica shows and they all loving killed it each time. Haven seen a band put a more engaging and adrenaline fuelled show (rammstein had more pyrotechnics though).

But .. im biased. Here's my first metallica concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jumgq6wX9nk . June 9th, 1993, MTK Stadium, Budapest.

On SiriusXM Liquid Metal they air now, in honour of 40 years since Kill 'Em All was released, covers of the songs on the album. Some of those covers are just loving amazing. Best one so far was Whiplash from Motorhead. gently caress im old.

I saw Megadeth only once, in 1993, they opened for Metallica that show. They were absolutely fantastic. This, Saturday's clip is ... I suppose to be expected. People get old. And the cancer definitely didn't help. But that sound engineer surely could have bumped up the mic volume a bit.

gently caress you ticketmaster.

I looked, out of curiosity, what concerts are there this year in Toronto. Well, it just so happens that Iron Maiden is playing in town in October. I saw them in 2018 or so. I paid around $100 for a floor ticket then. Now, ticketmaster is asking for $450 CAD for a floor ticket. I understand inflation, but gently caress you man. That's just highway robbery .

Anyway, that's my rant. Queensryche is playing in my town in April, reasonable tickets since they're well past their expiry date. So, at least I have that.

I know I posted about them before (few years back), but man, those guys are just loving awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCoh2ibRVK4. They call them "folk-metal" though, imo, it's all just bullshit. It's just plain metal, sung as it was meant to be.

Another sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-bbtYaY_c, probably one of their most recognizable.
