I know very little about china, and I think is important to get some information from that area of the world.

The in-fighting in this thread confuse me. But I think is a small price we have to pay to fight propaganda or biased opinions.

I am thankful to everyone in this thread for giving these small snippets of vision of what is china and whats goin on in china.

Imagine if you can use this to detect ill people, so you can send a quarantine people to inspect these and maybe send back home, so they don't infect other people.

Or you use this to detect people that is hidding weapons.

Maybe detect and log people movements around the city, store that path encrypted, and restore if after a crime is committed and a person is suspicious. It will result in innocent people getting free instantaneously. If the system shows that you where in the other side of the city, the police can safely release you.

Rome was destroyed by a belief lossely inspired by the life of jesus (christianism), so I think empires sometimes are pit against a idea and war against a idea, more than a army. USA was loving scared of communism because it was able to turn a destroyed third world country into a superpower, it made it look like communism was very powerful a idea, infectious. So USA worked hard to kill anyone remotelly leftist in the world. And then Russia collapsed because it failed economycally (Marx idea of value was wrong, or naive). So usa was unopposed superpower in this planet and can destroy other people cities when it snezze, that is the world where we live.

I hope these students realized that communism has a idea, failed. Communism can't really return, without a upgrade, a patch, a fix, ... something.

China probably have the right idea to sway somewhat to capitalism and not stay in pure communism land.

But I am european, so I believe a mix of socialist and capitalist ideas are better, so I am very biased to think this way.

About the interpol thing. I don't know, I know literal nothing.

It seems nations can issue Interpol red alerts to arrest a person, directly.. without passing through Interpol. Some nation-states are abusing the system to capture whistlebloggers and witness. So these can be murdered.

https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/9ms347/interpol_officer_found_dead_in_russia_apartment/

Interpol should change how it works, and have these request pass by their offices first to stop abuse. But until them theres something going on, none of us know about.

Interpol seems to be a good agency working to make our life better and protect the world from the bad guys. But this design allow, maybe, a Saudi governement to issue a arrest for a dude making a porn website, because they don't like porn (they love porn, but only in secret).

Is don't know if is different in english, but in spanish is different "look at something" and "see something".

The NSA or somebody could be filtering trafic for keywords and sending stats back to some server that collect stats from many filters and generate a report that is printed, then nobody look at it.
That is completely different than a human being looking at what we actually say and do, trying to find a reason to ruin our life.

The difference may be smaller in the future, when AI algorithms will make the filter take decisions by itself (like triggering a alarm).

CCTV cameras everywhere is not really a privacy risk if nobody is looking at the video.
CCTV cameras + a AI vision algorithm that detect faces, and generate a timestamped log of where is everyone + a system that automatically report a 1 second violation of a Restraining order = nightmare dystopia.

I doubt at this point the NSA is doing much with the capture data. Some pretty graphics in excel for some middle managers in the offices.

Social credit is a bad thing.

Go watch the TV serie "The Wire". Wen humans are forced to satisfy a statistic, they game it, the statistic start to look better, but is often at the sacrifice to the real thing.
Game score is a thing that will not make people better citizens, will get in the way, and sometimes will be between people and a healthy life.

I heard China workplace culture is slighly better than the Japanese one, so we can't blame the political system... just next to china theres a democratic country where workplace culture is even worse. If that led to more investment in foreign real estate by Chinese citizens well that'd be the capitalist countries' problem to deal with; housing being used as an investment vehicle is one of the most harmful and stupid things about capitalism.

I fully agree. Like food or water, everyone need to live in a house. But need to be caped by the governement, because houses need utilities like water and energy, and soon people have babies and need schools. So the govenement need to invest in urban areas. The govenement need to control the land that is freed for urban use. Since the supply is controlled, theres not "infinite" supply to force the prices low. Building a house is never something cheap. You have a limited supply and a high (already) price. People "investing" in houses what they are doing is removing houses from a limited pool at price X, then adding them again at price X+1000. Poor poeple that had a huge problem paying X, now can't have a house. If they can't have a house, they don't form a family. If they don't form a family, is future citizens that are stolen from society and economic activity. Money "invested" this way hurt the society and make life hard for poor people. People buying a second or third house with the idea to sell and make a profit are scalpers.

A communist govenement need to provide for the citizen needs. Any govenement really, but a communist one more than others. If your system of govenement result on people homeless and less economic activity, a lot of old people and no childrens. Your govenement is a failure.
