So, has anyone some impressions of the fighter and warrior classes vocations? Are they as dull as they usually tend to be in RPG's or did Capcom actually invest some fun Devil May Cry gameplay into them?

So, I'm currently running around as a Strider and I could use some help in what to focus on since I feel awfully weak. I just killed the Hydra and it feels like I'm just doing slivers of damage against bandits unless I'm buffed with an elemental weapon spell.

I did get the tangle skill which pretty much paid for itself in hilarity, since it allowed me to snare bandits into pretty little parcels that I threw over a cliff repeatedly.

Goddamnit, the Warrior gameplay videos on the Dragon's Dogma website really makes want to switch my Strider into a Warrior.

The Berserk stuff really makes it even more tempting..

I'd easily pay 200+ MS points to have Black Swordsman gear with an actual armcannon in this game.

So, did I miss a quest regarding Quina along the way? I completed the escort quest where you take her through the Mistwood and meet the "witch" of the forest. I've completed the quest where you have to haul rear end from the giant tomb underneath the pawns main base. When I took a detour along a river I found an abbey with a bunch of nuns and Quina as well. I know that she was talking about seeking out the church for my "condition" but was there supposed to be an escort quest to get her there as well?.

So I decided to try out the Assassin class after leveling mostly as a Strider with a few levels of Fighter thrown into the mix. I'm still trying to get used to the loss of the ensnare ability that the Strider had but I'm also having great fun with some of the sword skills that the Assassin gets.

Are there any "must have" skills from the Dagger and Sword trees for the Assassin, in order to make leveling this vocation a bit faster?

I've almost maxed out the Assassin vocation and I'm thinking about trying out either the Warrior or start to branch out into Mage->Sorcerer->Mystic Knight in order to try out another playstyle but I'm not quite sure yet. Do the Warrior vocation give anything worthwhile for a character that's been mostly Strider/Assassin during 35 levels?

How the gently caress am I supposed to escort Reynard past the female bandit lair without him running straight into a goddamn melee? Hell, the last time he managed to get chomped by the cyclops that apparently the bandits are keeping around as a watchdog. At least it made for a funny scene before the "Mission Failed" sign came up..

So, my nephew erased my saved game by mistake since he didn't know about the single save system in this game. Not much to do but to start over with a new character. I think I'll start out as a fighter in order to give myself some extra survivability in the early levels, even if I'll miss the swiss army knife that is the Strider.

So, out of curiosity, do anyone have a lot of experience of the Mystic Knight vocation? Is it mostly a defensive Paladin style of class or does it have some good offence as well?

neetz posted:

It has massive offensive capabilities, particularly with a high magic stat and the magic boosting augments. Ruinous Sigil will carry with it whatever your weapon is enchanted with (and a MK can enchant their weapon with any element and the group's with a single spell) and absolutely devastates most enemies. Place a fire sigil underneath a wyrm and watch the health melt away. You can place four Great Cannons on top of one another for twelve homing shots when you strike it, all capable of bearing an element. If one of your pawns hits it, that will send out extra shots too. Place a Ruinous Sigil on top of those four balls and bam, there goes like a dozen shots extra flying out like crazy. This tends to kill the frame rate as so many balls of magic are flying around the screen but it will kill rooms full of enemies. You have all the utility of weapon enchantments, the incredible Abyssal Anguish (which, though it implies otherwise, does not override your current enchantment) and can wear Warrior class armor and pack maces that carry a serious punch.

It is a very strong offensive and utility class indeed. I personally found it better to come in from mage and sorcerer as all of the best augments there work for Mystic Knights; enhanced duration on weapon buffs, magic stat boosts, quicker casts etc. You'll be a little on the squishier side but it evens out quickly enough. Opposite applies coming from a very physical class, where you'll have to wait a while for your magic stat to catch up.
Sounds pretty interesting since I wanted to move away from the Strider->Assassin character I did the last time so I'll probably max out Strider and then go for maxing Mage and Sorcerer before going for Mystic Knight.

Regarding the Land of Opportunity quest. How do you even get the option to to buy the house for them instead? So here's what I did to get that option: I went after the kid first and talked to him at each area to convince him to leave. I then talked to the wife outside the alehouse and finally Jasper. The key seems to be immediately going back to Fournival and offering to buy the house for them. I noticed that if I just talked to Jasper, my pawn would suggest buying the place, but it wasn't an option yet. Try doing it in that order and immediately going to Fournival, as time has to pass for the wife to make up her mind that they should leave.

The quest is kind of a pain, and I had similar difficulties until I did it that way.
I've spoken with the wife and the son but I can't find Jasper anywhere. Does he only spawn at certain hours of the day or what?

Well, I have to agree that most pawns seems to be small, demure girls with the biggest bosom available but I recently hired a pretty awesome looking mage named Peggy who got the weight slider increased and one hell of a set of thunder tighs. If we are talking new classes I'd love to see a Mage/Strider hybrid that focuses on melee and speed instead of the walking tin can that is the Mystic Knight. I'm not sure why but it seems that when game developers think of a magic/melee hybrid they always go for the old armoured caster approach.

Then I have to sift through those to find ones with the abilities I actually want. Then the time comes when I find the perfect pawn, with an awesome spell combination, only to scroll over and see they're a Guardian. Then I have to start all over again. :(

I really need to add more goons.
So what is a good inclination combo for mages/sorcerers? I've been rolling with a challenger/scather from the beginning since I prefer for my pawn to flashfry mages and archers before going for the bigger targets.

WHY

Nearly every significant complaint I have with the game relates in some way to the need to raise the difficulty artificially. They catch on to the absence of difficulty settings, and...go in the opposite direction. I'm not sure what to say except that I hope this is at least indicative of a non-stupid hard mode in the future.
Yeah, I don't get it either but as you said I hope this means that Capcom will be working on a harder difficlty later on. I just hope that they won't go with what I like to call the Bethsoft solution, i.e turning every enemy into a giant HP sponge.
