You lucky bastards. Mine JUST shipped. Looking forward to seeing your pawns in action. I notice that the OP mentions I should turn off the dynamic camera. Details as to why?

Everyone make one post with game name, system, and pawn name, plus relevant pawn details. We can go back and edit the post as we play and grow. That way, we can pick and choose who we friend.

Okay, my copy was delivered yesterday but I've been traveling and working... I'll officially kick this off tonight. Three day weekend should make for some good power leveling. Gamertag is OK Octopus if anyone is looking to add people.

Just started on my end. That... that was a Hell of a delayed title screen. Also, I agree with everyone who said that the menu music was spectacular. It feels like a cheesey 90s anime starting up in the best possible ways. Really drives that Berserk relationship home. For comparison: "Tell Me Why" by the Penpals http://youtu.be/etjED7J1B-E

So when does your pawn officially enter the rift for the use of others? A friend and I started playing roughly about the same time and I can't seem to find hers.

I'd just like to reiterate how amazing that title screen song is. Somehow, it manages to be both ironic and unironic at the same time... you really can't help but feel pumped by it. If anyone's been looking for it, it's "Into Free -Dangan-" by a group called B'z. http://youtu.be/ZHuxBr0FS_E

Jesus Christ... just took down my first golem and it was epic as gently caress. I had three warriors with me because I was trying (and failing) to do yet another escort mission. Coming back with my tail between my legs (loving pack of 80 dire wolves) and... WHAM. I camped out on a tall rock and sniped while the little pawns got swatted around like ants. The big enemies are really the best part of this game.

Having a blast with this game, I've gotta say. Running a magic knight at the moment (staff-based) and I've just hit a point where I could not be happier with his abilities. He's got all the best parts of a mage, plus group buffs and shield abilities. I just wish his drat shield didn't clip through everything. I've taken many of your pawns out for spins and I hope you've done the same with mine (GT: OK Octopus). I was actually able to run through about three solid hours of gameplay yesterday with just goon pawns and it was a blast. NG+ question: do you use your original character/pawn or do you rebuild them from the ground up (character creator et al)? Yancy_Street fucked around with this message at 16:03 on May 28, 2012 |

I'm not sure when the last time you took him out was, but I changed his personality up a little. Funny you should mention that. Took him out for a bit today, but I noticed that he didn't actually do anything. Sure enough, he was set to Guardian. When my Arisen is in danger, he leaps into action... but nada until then. Maybe want to play with that? Also, finally grabbed the Triple Tooth for Brandywine. I'm very excited to see it in action for myself. EDIT: Also... gently caress cockatrices. gently caress THEMMMMMM.

Welp. I just had it. I just had THAT Dragon's Dogma moment. I just used Maelstrom on a mob of a half dozen sleeping saurions by a river bed. I had to pan the screen up three times to see them all reach the apex of that arc. poo poo.

I was expecting to have to completely rebuild the characters from level 1, so I made my warrior pawn a mage. Then the game started and I realized I was still in the 50s. Oops. At least I got it fixed relatively quickly. To the guy above me: you can theoretically New Game Plus multiple times. Also, the level cap is 200, though the perks start to drop off after about 100 or so.

Pawns desperately need to be able to pursue those split tier vocations. Brandywine is a wonderful warrior, but now I want her to pursue magic. Maybe I should consider archery... goon pawns.txt really seems to be lacking in high level support classes.

Okay, restarted the game from scratch with a strider (after keeping fighter long enough to get the weight carry bonus) and a mage pawn. Sold out a bit in terms of looks... maybe I'll get some random internet reviews now.

Davos posted:Just started playing, chose a mage as my beginning vocation. Is it just me or is magic kind of boring to use compared to other forms of combat? Warriors and striders felt really fun and fast paced judging from the demo's gameplay, but here I find myself just kind of spamming one or two spells over and over again and doing pitiful damage compared to my warrior pawn. As someone else said, going sorcerer can make it all worthwhile. The first time you cast Maelstrom on an unsuspecting mob... beautiful.

She's a little meteor happy, but she's really a magical killing-machine now. Aww, thank you! I think mine's currently Scather / Challenger at the moment. Not ideally where I'd want her, but I'm currently tooling around in the Everfall and it's really awkward to run out and buy those potions. Anyways, guess it's time for a bit of self-pimping. The only thing my pawns ever did that actually makes me angry enough to scream at the TV is drawing aggro near me while I'm casting a spell. I send them out to battle a Gorechimera in Everfall or something, start casting, and then they all just abandon the battle for no reason twenty seconds in, loving run back up to me, and just stand there until, of course, the GC follows and mauls me out of my loving casting warm up with a second to go.

I really think this is my favorite game. Not sure why, but something about it captivates me. Anyone else feel the same way? I remember first hearing about it and falling in love. Followed it since spring of last year, and now I'm ready and willing to buy the new version and any sequels. I hope the next iteration allows pawns to use abilities that use both magic and strength. Switching horses midstream really bugs me.

Ramc posted:That's good to know! Thanks for the lowdown. My main pawn is a Sorcerer and I usually tote a mage pawn for healing, so I almost always have a boon spell in the wings. Vein it is for now. I play around a lot with characters, but I've found myself going that route often as well. A good mage is a backbone of a team, and too many other people make lovely mages that have the worst possible buffs for endgame content where that kind of thing really matters. Also, being a sorceror, getting to a safe vantage point, and then sucking up a dozen lizard men into a giant spinning vortex is the best feeling in the game.

Then I try to find a Fighter and Mage that don't blow. Soul Skewer is a plus. Healing is a must. Playing through the game again, and I just hit the 60. I have to scroll through the pawns five or six times before I find one that's not guardian. How do people stomach this?
