it's funny they ended up using a cheap transreflective LCD instead of e-ink considering the original headline of their kickstarter was "Pebble: E-Paper Watch for iPhone and Android"

As for the screen itself, I would call it just okay: Pebble calls it "e-paper," but it’s really a 114 x 168 "transflective" LCD that’s designed for watches. It’s functional, but ultimately it’s a low-resolution black and white LCD, and low-resolution black and white LCDs are not renowned for their beauty. It’s also covered by a curved plastic lens that can reflect light in weird ways — it’s not a huge problem at all, but you’ll notice it from time to time.

The screen itself always has content on it, whether it’s the time, the music player, or a notification, and it’s fairly readable in daylight without the backlight on. But the backlight makes a big difference: when it’s off, the screen is roughly black and white, in the same way a Nook or Kindle screen is roughly black and white. But incoming notifications and particularly fast movements trigger the backlight, which adds an unexpected bluish tint to the screen. It works fine, but there’s no way for it to feel super-premium if the screen looks cheap — the experience here is fundamentally all about the display, after all. I hope Pebble finds a better part the next time around.

Update #8 · Aug. 10, 2012 · 7 comments

I've just launched the playable demo with 3 playable levels at http://ronpaulroadtorevolution.com

I realize i'm a month late getting a playable demo online. I apologize for that, and the only thing I can say to that is that this project is by far the most ambitious project I've ever done. Things have taken a lot more than I expected to get off the ground.

That being said, I'll be releasing a few new levels each week until all 50 are live, along with the Federal Reserve boss fight levels.

Update #9 · Jan. 28, 2013 · 1 comment

I've been trying to figure out what to say for quite a long time. I guess today I've realized I probably will never come up with the perfect thing to say.

The t-shirt situation was a nightmare that I'm still dealing with to try and get a refund for. I've been working on getting new shirts printed and expect to have them soon. I have delayed posting anything because I have had no good news and I hate making excuses.

The game has been on hold for a while now because I started running into all sorts of issues with the engine and browser compatibility. I ran out of funding rather more quickly than I had anticipated, and now intend to fund the game with my own money.

I'm in a pretty decent place now, where I am making enough money to hire the help that I need to tackle this project, and expect to resume development immediately in February.

I realize all of my mistakes in not being more forthcoming, or offering full disclosure. While I proceed with development, I will open up with a project schedule on the main site, http://ronpaulroadtorevolution.com , to keep everyone in the loop.

I welcome any offers of help with development. I have had a very difficult time finding coders to assist me.

If any of you would rather receive a refund than your backer rewards, please contact me: daniel@ronpaulswag.com , and I will take care of it. This whole situation was definitely not how I intended it to be.
