Love June on HDTGM, but wowie this podcast is something else. There's a lot of skirting around borderline cultists and cults. The Casey Williams bit is right at the end and... oof.

She effectively says she feels like the spirit of her deceased landscaper is cheerleading her on from the grave. ...being generous maybe she's implying the work the landscaper did lives on and gives her joy... but it really comes across like she feels the landscaper is a ghost who's spending their afterlife supporting them specifically.

Is the image a reference to a movie, famous babies, or something

Oh it's a parody of a famous photographer who shot babies. Alrighty

Once you sign up for CBBWorld, there’s a drop down for the podcasts they have and you just click the Overcast button and it’ll open the app and do it for you. Super simple.

Hope they fix the interface and add 'PODCASTS' as a button to the left menu. Took me a long time to realize I needed to click on my profile and then click podcasts there to get that menu opened up. Too used to Stitcher/Earwolf interfaces where you can just listen in browser.

Gave Big Daddy Aukerman $70, he's earned it. The discord is funny, as while I'm sure there are people who subscribed at $70 and didn't join it, have to imagine it's a decent barometer for how many people have signed up at that tier. So far it's around 600 people, neat!

I don't use any podcast players, just usually use Spotify. Is Overcast the best for downloading / playing em'?

The Bob Ducca thing isn't my cup of tea, but I love love love what they're doing with CBB presents. It's basically the Andy Daly Podcast Pilot Project but for anyone who's ever been on the show. Most will probably miss, but looking forward to the inevitable hits  .

Also CBB Presents this week is Leo Karpartze. Haven't listened to it yet, but fingers crossed they're doing a (safe) in person Halloween special before covid numbers spike and we all retreat again for the winter.

CatstropheWaitress

Halfway through Leo's show. Nick brings all the co-hosts of his shows and it's great.

Lord knows how long CBB World can/should go on, but in the moment it's totally living up to Scott's dream of creative's making stuff that they find interesting and entertaining, everything else be damned. Sloppy, hit and miss, and so refreshing.

Scotts whole deal with Ego seems to be wildly antagonistic. Talks to her like a problematic host stuck in the 70's. Imagine they have a good enough rapport outside of the show that it's fine, but they play it very straight.

Love the bit in Andy Daly's current run of shows that they're still recording out of Andy Richter's backyard. For context, they had him guest star on one of the first new episodes and have just kept it up.

Not sure how CBBFM is kosher, to my knowledge you're only allowed to use up to 10 seconds of copyrighted music unless you pay exorbitant amounts to publishers for a broad license, but the show is great. Scott's got some good taste in music.

Why would Scott even do the show if he wasn't interested in seeing these movies at least somewhat ? It's not like anyone other than him and Shaun are dictating what they do. At worst he thinks it'll make a funny episode which is still him wanting to watch the movie.

Movie reviews are like the news - content you can comment on that broad audiences have an understanding on and might even have opinions themselves. You could do a podcast about ancient Middle Eastern history, but that would require research and chance is good there's only a small audience here for that.

Now Sister Act 2? People have seen that, or are likely at least familiar with it. All they have to do is watch a watchable film and then sum up the plot for a little over an hour. Low investment, high(?) reward.

Also they seem like actual buds, so monetizing casual convo's with a pal ain't a bad!

They're part of CBBWorld, yeah. It's all A+ stuff tho.

Bunch of episodes of them shooting poo poo over Bonanza, and a handful of Andy Daly Podcast Pilot Project successor one-offs, and in addition to that random episodes where Dalton Wilcox tries to open up his own Ponderosa restaurant, including having a brief but amazing conversation with a Ponderosa agent.

It's good good stuff.

Who Me? is a bit flimsy as a recurring podcast idea. Of the CBB Presents....only Hey Randy and Eat Pray Dunk are all that good imo.

Hey Randy is the clear star, but Eat Pray Dunk hasn't gripped me yet. Of the CBB Presents shows that have done more than one ep I'd rank them like so,

Hey Randy
Entree PeeE Neur's Entrepreneur Tour featuring Appetizer PeeE Neur
You Can't Handle the Sleuth's
Full Throttle
This Book Changed My Life
Eat Pray Dunk
Who Me?
College Town

Do people still rank things. Is that still a thing. My opinion, behold it.

CatstropheWaitress

CBB works because Scott is a very, very good host and knows how to navigate improv - when to linger on a bit, when to bail or change topic, etc. A *lot* of the CBB Presents shows are what happens when you don't have Scott, and it's two people pretending to be characters finding themselves in dead end comedy cul-de-sacs without an easy way out.

I really enjoy Lily Sullivan's work in general, but This Book Changed My Life just does that a bit too much for me. Hey Randy has a lot of lore they can fallback on, as well as the voice mails to switch too when the convo slows. TBCML is a lot of yes-anding which is fine but also means they frequently spend a lot of time on tangents that don't amount to much.

Praise be Scotty D

To be more generous to them, Dropout is similar to the CBB-sphere. In short - College Humor for the longest time was a subsidiary of some big corporate entity, and in 2019 they cut them out. Instead of letting it die, the head honcho and longtime writer/performer Sam decided to trudge ahead with a skeleton crew. The vibes are good, and you can tell that's the case, similar to CBB they have a great roster of comedians and folks that regularly appear on the shows.

Would recommend checking out any of these and seeing if they float your boat.

Game Changer, a game show where the game changes most shows.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT-zZsjwZKk

Total Forgiveness, a contest between two writers to see who can win more money to pay off their student loans.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9RoQvbKw7Q

Breaking News, game where performers have to read a news room sketch and aren't supposed to break character.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcX_lXP977g

Gods of Food, pretty great parody of Chef's Table
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKwmGL2AuIk

...and the crown jewel is Dimension 20, a dnd show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GX8075fX3k

General sense you get is that they're kind of the generation after CBB's big playground for the LA Comedy scene. Haven't had any breakout successes yet, but they're punching above their weight and have a cozy fiefdom.

Half of CBB World's shows are just Scott talking his opinion about movie and music. It's *plenty* parasocial. They're both effectively troupes.

CatstropheWaitress
Nov 26, 2017

CBB did really bolster their ranks right before the pandemic. Plenty of the current regulars had been on before, but I feel like the crew that makes up most of CBB World really latched onto the wagon in 2019 or so. The tour was a kind of beautiful cap to that, with most of them doing multiple shows.

CatstropheWaitress

It gets mentioned a lot, but anyone who dug old Earwolf still digs Earwolf should give Dropout a try. It has a lot of the same energy of early to mid 30's comedians doing shows together and clearly having a blast.
