Stoat posted:I'm dumb, why would being made immune to Rubella be a bad thing? Since the guy is continually praising the free market I thought it might be a reference to universal healthcare being socialism and this being his kryptonite. Like how right-wingers think muslims are deathly afraid of/repealed like vampires by bacon rather than simply don't eat it. But it could be an anti-vaccination thing as has already been mentioned, I'm pretty sure there's a conspiracy theory about mind controlling substances in vaccinations so it could go either way.

Azuth0667 posted:The anti-vaccination garbage spans the entire spectrum of tinfoil hat wearing retardedness. My pharmacy was doing flu shots, shingles shots and MMR shots. We had a few people that insisted the government put nanobots in them to make them want to shop more . I've also heard "I don't do vaccines it causes autism, that's how I caught my autism." This person had a lot of diseases, none of them affected communication or cognitive function. I've had plenty of idiots use "they had mercury in them that's why I am not book smart." Part of me thinks we should sympathise with them because it's generally a fantasy to regain some illusion of control after a bad turn in life and maybe believing in a conspiracy is less upsetting than the random, cruelty of existence but then I remember that not vaccinating their kids ends up with deadly viral infections resurging and people dying as a result and I think no actually gently caress them because intent doesn't really matter that much when they are making life worse for everyone around them.

Azuth0667 posted:The justice system already ruled that parents can't refuse life saving medical treatment for their children on religious basis a long time ago so I don't know why they let this poo poo fly. If I remember right this was a bunch of wealthy people doing this and advocating for it right? Well I can't attest to America but in the UK it's largely a middle class phenomenom. Unlike the US there aren't lobbying groups as such but there was, in the 90s or 00s, a huge media-led scandal about MMR causing autism (started by a doctor who had just co-incidentally patented separate measles, mumps and rubella vaccinnations) and the prime minister at the time refusing to declare whether his kids had been vaccinated, leading to public confidence being hugely undermined. The government was also at the time trying to turn the health service into a service provider offering consumer choice rather than treating patients and focussing on public health, which can't have helped matters. Orange Devil posted:I love this so much. The best part is that from what I've read and heard, Allah is actually a pretty understanding and forgiving dude when it comes to poo poo he forbids. So like, if it was "eat pig or starve" you could totally eat pig as a devout Muslim and Allah would be cool about it. But no, clearly if some bigot dangles it in front of you or throws it at you or some poo poo you won't get to go to heaven or whatever. It seems like a surreal chinese whispers game of racists' trying to understand other cultures, where third-hand retellings of de-contextualised Koran passages result in people expressing anti-muslim sentiments by stapling pork sausages to the American flag with no sense of irony or the inherent ridiculousness of their actions.

Chantilly Say posted:Well, what national day does Wales celebrate, and what do they do for it? Besides... drink and eat whatever's stereotypically Welsh, though I honestly don't know what that is. March the 1st is St. David's day, who's the patron saint of Wales. They hold an eisteddfod, which is kinda like a folk arts recital type thing, sometimes parades, concerts, and food festivals as well. For stereotypical food there are a variety of traditional cakes, lamb, seafood, wild game, beer, and cawl (their version of irish stew basically) is often associated with the day.

Is Shapiro a big deal beyond this thread or is he a matt walsh-like?
