Disclaimer: I’m in tech so I can get away with a non-leather/more casual bag. I have a topo that I use when traveling because it looks good and it’s not too heavy. I have a three days in California coming up, one in San Jose, two in San Francisco… should I bother flying into SJC and out of SFO or just all out of SFO or what? I wasn’t planning on renting a car bc I hate driving in the Bay Area, but I can I guess if that makes getting around San Jose easier?

Is this every week with no breaks? And is this the SAME location every week? If that's so, I'd honestly push for an extended stay hotel from a major hotel chain like Marriott, so a Residence Inn or Townplace Suites. They can often keep stuff for you over the weekends so you're not always schlepping poo poo back and forth between home/home 2, there's a kitchenette so you're not eating trash or restaurant food every night, and usually their workout room is better stocked. I really want to underline - pick a MAJOR hotel chain bc you don't want to lose those points - my friend is now lifetime plat at Marriott because of this kind of travel. Also, $75 per diem is very, very low, especially if you are taking clients out. I would personally cause a huge stink about this. e: also, I brought a separate personal macbook air around when i was doing this kind of travel. mostly to play eve online (lol) and that social interaction saved me. it wasnt the video games themselves, it was that i could talk to friends and wrest a little part of control over my life back. m-f travel was very hard on me (i'm very extroverted), and seeing people only on weekends was really rough. i flamed out after the first project and asked for a transfer back to sales so i could break up the travel a little more on my own terms taco show fucked around with this message at 18:28 on Nov 14, 2022 |

I’d check your company’s travel policy but usually when I have to run my expense reports through concur I have to declare if I did any personal spend (ex. Annual AMEX fee, or just accidentally swiped w Apple Pay) and then the company credits me directly to my bank acct w my next paystub or I tell them that I’ll directly pay Amex. idk if that will work for you? Anyway usually those promos aren’t available for corp cards… also can we get a link for your fellow biz travelers??

Ugh AA breaking my heart. Honestly no way I hit that kind of points spend unless I use it in lieu of my corporate AMEX. I would have easily qualed as plat this year on the old system but definitely did not hit the new weird loyalty points threshold. I’ll probably never hit exp ever again since my company has really tightened up on work travel and completely blocked any international trips post lockdown. I’m considering switching to United since I’m ORD based, but I use the LGA every half hour shuttle so often…

Ehhh maybe it would be worth it if you fly pretty often on AA out of hubs (read: a lot of gold ff) that are often weather/irrops impacted or if you very often go standby. My main hub is ORD and I’m flying to LGA a lot so plat has saved me from being stranded a bunch but I’d still be on the fence for paying for it. The plat —> plat premium would be worth it just for free same day flight change.

Today has been a DAY Huge transportation strikes in Paris meant a bunch of scrambling of actually figuring out how to even get to CDG. Then at CDG the air traffic controllers are also striking so our flight got out late… then at LHR they weren’t ready for us so we sat on the tarmac for awhile. We’re now 40m behind. And after taking a bus to the right terminal, though I definitely, visibly could make it through the security line to get to my conx they wouldn’t let me or escort me (or the 10 other people on the same flight to ORD). BA rebooked me through Dulles with another extremely tight 2hr connection and a carrier change to United and it was supposed to take off 26 minutes ago but I think we are missing some crew and maybe catering? Odds are NOT looking good that I’m making it back to Chicago tonight, or maybe ever at this rate. Edit: BA’s technology is horrible, I really am spoiled with AA. Also I had to call united while standing in front of the ba desk so the united agent could then call a ba agent with instructions to add my ktn so I could actually get precheck on the off chance I can recheck my bag fast enough to sprint through security. Holy poo poo Royal Jordanian moved my seat to a middle seat AT THE AIRPORT even though I have ow sapphire status and picked an aisle seat. Now they’re saying that I needed to pay for the seat? How? It showed $0 when I selected bc of my status entitlements. Normally, whatever, I’m short and just put on headphones and/or sleep but holy poo poo it’s a 12 hour flight and I even called last night to confirm seats because I’ve had so many issues with RJ. I swear the oneworld international carriers are going to be what makes me jump ship to United. BA is trash, RJ is awful, Iberian is ehh.

The new Global Entry kiosks weren’t recognizing my face (kept cycling) and I had to go talk to an agent and show my card which I had thankfully brought with me. He mentioned that maybe it’s because my GE photo has me wearing thick framed glasses whereas the new kiosks want you to remove my glasses? Anyone run into this before? A new GE photo means I need to get an appointment which is not easy these days.

Currently trapped in NYC. Terminal A at LGA is completely closed lol. I’m flying AA out of JFK and my flight isn’t until later so nbd kind of but I can’t physically get to the airport because all the subways are shut down and parts of the roads/highway are just straight up flooded. lol. Hope all y’all are doing better than me.

The videos from the 737 max blowout are wild. Apparently that specific plane had had some pressurization issues before and so I think the seats directly around that area not being occupied was intentional. Super lucky this happened at a lower altitude. E: to the guy above looking for flight delays, all Boeing 737 max 9s are grounded so things are gonna be a little tricky

When I worked at a hip (and cash rich) software company where we threw a big week-long conference every year, those of us staffing booths could REQUEST to share a room if we really really wanted to go to the conference. We could pick our roommates. It was kind of hosed up looking back on it? The conference was a work hard, party harder vibe and we were all hot 20-something salespeople with no-holds barred AMEX limits (“happy hour for a customer!”)… also there were no gender restrictions on roommate choices as long as both people agreed. lol. Anyway, don’t let people share rooms, I lived that life and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Most corporate cards you can ask to associate the points on your personal acct- that’s what I’ve always done with my work amex. If you don’t have a personal amex already I think it’s $65/yr. I also kept all my points when I left my last job.

I’ve done it (on AA) when I booked a fully refundable/reschedulable ticket to somewhere I do actually want to go and then moved it to the right dates when I figured it out or cancelled it to get another voucher with a new date. You also don’t have to use the entire voucher on one itin- I used mine for three separate trips.

Ooookay so this is a mess: I was gifted Gold on British Airways (OneWorld Emerald - MUCH higher than my lowly AA status). I have a bunch of upcoming flights booked on my American with my AAdvantage number, and I called in to change one of the itins to the BA ff number. Afterwards, that trip straight up disappeared from the AA phone app/website and is ALSO not on my BA account on britishairways.com. I still have the record locator, so not a big deal, but does this mean I can't use the AA app at all for my boarding passes? I don't care about getting AA miles for these flights but is there a way to keep the flight associated with my AA login so I can see the drat ticket and do a same day flight change or anything else like that? Can I leverage emerald for upgrades on American at all? Can I get on the upgrade list? Do I have to call in for that 24 hours in advance? (Should I be calling AA or BA?) If anyone's done this weird AA/BA dance before, I'd appreciate any thoughts or guidance.
