I would have preferred two rounds of Jeopardy on day 1, double and final on day 2. That would leave plenty o'time to do the talking heads portion.

I don't know that I'm on board with more difficult answers. I do think they stepped up the quality of the writing for the tournament, and that has been quite enjoyable.

I am enjoying the "wow" factor of watching these monsters make mincemeat out of the most esoteric trivia I've ever seen, but I can't say that I like feeling like a total idiot after each episode. It's humbling, that's for sure.

Yeah, it was cool the first few episodes but at the end of the day it kills the satisfaction of playing along.

Yeah, 78 is a good innings and all, but a diagnosis like that and I'd be all over the place patting all the dogs I could while I still had time.

I for one would like there to be a bell that sounds for every buzzer press, even if they aren't first.

I hope they wipe the buzzers down between contestants. Who knows where that hand has been.

I also advocate buzzer condoms.

Title shortening has been going on for decades. Sometimes the writers get too clever.

I also agree ^^^^ James is well on the spectrum. Not deep enough to not know he comes across as an rear end in a top hat and generally unlikable. But also not so deep that they need a restraining order (unlike Wheel of Fortune guy).

It would be interesting to do analysis on the outcome of the first show of each season - what the win rate for the carryover champion is.

It's got to suck momentum-wise to have that hiatus between games.

I feel like it came down to Brad sniping a few of James' Daily Doubles. If it were James and Ken 1-on-1, I don't know who would win a best of 7.

Online test at the end of the month :getin:

I'm hearing this sentiment a lot, but the problem with that is Jeopardy is a 3 player game* and both Ken and James made it to the GOAT table with 2 competitors.

(*Watson was the 3rd player; also aware that Super Jeopardy had 4 contestants and late 70s Jeopardy eliminated a player for double Jeopardy)

edit: Duckman above takes the point further

I thought that clue sucked for FJ for the reasons mentioned. A vast majority of the population who knew the correct question would have whiffed on the spelling just like the contestants did.

If this is what we can expect from the Mike Richards era, I'm out.

I don't think he wanted to be on TV (at least regarding Jeopardy) to begin with. The only times he was on was to announce Alex's death and as emergency backup host due to Mrázek's in... Uh, Ken's scheduling conflict.

Maybe Couric does well but I doubt she wants the job full time.

Trust me - the dude is a one-man PR machine. You're going to see him and hear of him way more than you did Harry Friedman.

I dunno, in the 80s people hadn't yet lived through 2000 and all the "well, ACTUALLY, the new millenium doesn't start until January 1, 2001" :smugdog:

So it might not have been quite as easy as it seems in hindsight to us. But you would assume they'd stop and ponder why they would give a FJ clue with such an immediately "obvious" answer instead of all confidently writing Jan. 1, 1900.

Agreed, but want to add it was literally the second episode. It's a little unfair to expect 3 contestants who literally have the prior episode as their only point of reference, to expect a curveball, as compared to someone in Season 2 and beyond.
