Hahah, so I won a free pass to see Carly Rae Jepsen perform live this Thursday at Terminal 5. No, not the concert venue in Manhattan, but the building in JFK International Airport where JetBlue flights arrive and depart. I'll have to go through the TSA screening and everything. That Carly Rae Jepsen performance at JFK Airport was only a four song acoustic set, half of which were from Emotion (I Really Like You and Run Away From Me). Even better, the stage area had an obnoxiously high barrier in the way: At least she sounded pretty good and was really sweet during the 30-second meet and greet.

The show was short --- even with two openers, it was over by 9 p.m. --- but it included all of the Four Pink Walls EP and two cover songs. It was a nice surprise to come back from that show and find out that my iTunes pre-order for that EP had already downloaded on my computer, though. They were playing the video version for a while and then switched back for some reason. There actually is a radio edit of the song that keeps the instrumental remix but replaces Kendrick Lamar's verses with the original lyrics.

She's knows how to put on a fun show (she donned a cape and sang with a mic stand wrapped in pearls for a few songs) and feeds off the energy of the crowd well. She's also apt to grab the hands of whoever is reaching out to her and once even took someone's cell phone to snap a selfie between songs. Her backing band is pretty tight, too, so you don't have to worry about it being just her singing over pre-recorded tracks or whatever. Regarding the synchronization of it all, that's true; the whole production is brilliantly choreographed. The pre-taped video sometimes leads people to believe that Kristen Wiig or Paul Dano are actually in attendance, though.

I finally got to see Carly Rae Jepsen perform with an orchestra even though I had to fly out to Vancouver to do so. It was amazing to hear Cut To The Feeling live with an orchestral arrangement and the crowd went absolutely insane when they realized what song it was.
