I didn't even realize there was a new Kickstarter thread, so I had to catch up last night. What is the deal with that lunchman guy? My feeling is that he doesn't actually have any real mental disability and is just incredibly stupid. Although I'm absolutely astounded by just how stupid. Here's another video of his I found. It only has five views so we're getting in on the ground floor here.

Has anyone mentioned that one of her cunty brothers is wearing a shirt that apparently says "I think I'm a Lesbian."? It's bad enough that you let your cunty kid wear that shirt. It's even worse that you use it in your Kickstarter pitch. I don't generally judge people's parenting, but if this woman is real, she is a terrible mother.

EDIT: Ugh. I'm starting to think this woman is real. She has another project from earlier last year where she wanted $20K for loving capes. That one failed miserably, yet somehow she got her $20K, but to send her kid to RPG Maker Camp instead of for capes.

Oh.
So Jedit wasn't joking.
:suicide:

EDIT: After reading the first page and a half of comments, I have lost all faith in humanity. A couple of people raising very legitimate concerns about a multimillionaire making a Kickstarter for her 9 year old to raise $20,000 to get revenge on her brothers. And then dozens of people calling them trolls and defending this completely abhorrent behavior.

No, I wasn't. My apologies for not providing a link, though. It didn't occur to me to do so as I found the information in under 30 seconds with a simple Google search for her name.

It just didn't even occur to me to suspect or google such a thing. I think this makes me just as upset as the lovely indiegogos that exploit tragedies like the Newtown massacre. At least then I can imagine some impoverished person doing something deplorable out of desperation. This woman is doing it out of pure obliviousness to her extreme privilege. Everything about this makes me furious. A millionaire asking for people to give her money to send her spoiled kid to RPG camp (which is a violation of the KS rules to begin with). All of the people in the comments defending her when faced with these facts, and saying that the people calling it out are "jealous haters". Seriously, the worship of the wealthy in this country out of some sort of misguided belief that "hey, maybe one day that'll be me bootstrappin' myself into a penthouse"...it just makes me ill. This incredibly wealthy woman is essentially asking for handouts and people are praising her for it, for gently caress's sake.

And to top it all off, she's just being a terrible mother to her sons. I'm no MRA freak or anything, but she's pitting her children against each other as some sort of battle of the sexes. She didn't put up a proper pitch video because she didn't want to expose her children to potential unsavory elements of the internet, and yet the first thing you see on the page is a picture of one of her sons wearing a goddamn "I Think I'm a Lesbian" shirt, and the other one shirtless and looking like he's 5 years away from being on whatever the next incarnation of Jersey Shore is on MTV...oh and this is all apparently at Christmas. They've clearly started these two little shits down the path to entitled douchehood, and yet I still feel sorry for them. They've raised these kids to be assholes, and now are shaming them on the internet for such. Look at this excerpt from her recent update.

quote:

I tried to wrangle my family together to do a quick video update at about 8pm last night to prove we were real. That, as you'd suspect, turned into a total nightmare because one of my son's in particular has a chip on his shoulder about everything. His snide comments led to his father yelling at him which led to a video that was not exactly the Wilson family at its best. But to quell the "scam" rumors I almost posted it.

No poo poo? Your son "has a chip on his shoulder" about his mother villifying him on the internet to raise money (that she doesn't need) for his perfect angel sister to go to RPG camp. I can't imagine why?

This woman is an rear end in a top hat without knowing it, her kids will grow up to be the most entitled dickholes imaginable, and people like the ones in the comment section will continue to defend such actions while calling the poor a bunch of worthless leeches. gently caress humanity. We suck.

EDIT: After reading some of the recent comments from overnight, I can't even cut this woman any slack for being oblivious. She's an outright manipulator. Truly detestable and I hope this gets plenty of backlash and negative coverage and gets shut down.

The problem isn't that she's rich, it's that she's greedy. She's taking a website mean to help people do cool stuff and using it so she doesn't have to pay for something she can easily afford.

There's nothing wrong with being rich by itself, it's when you become greedy or selfish, that's the issue. Sadly too many rich people lack the self control not to become either of these.

Exactly this. I'm not going to get into this in a broader societal sense, but it's like some sort of battered wife syndrome where clear evidence is being shown that this is a scam, and yet people rush to defend the scammer. In the comment section, people posted copious amounts of evidence showing that this project violates the KS TOS and is pretty clearly a scam. Here's a representative response from one of the people white knighting the millionaire scam artist.

quote:

Yeah this goofy lemonade stand video is really scamming people. I'm sure all us backers are sacrificing our last loaf of bread because Susan's marketing savvy is just too overpowering for us. Oh no! It's an internet video! Better hide your wallets!

Be real: you hate Susan because she's rich, happy, and a woman. You're jealous misogynists. The success of others--especially women--makes you angry.

You are so out of touch that you actually think this reflects poorly on Susan... wow. The success of this project is just another bullet-point on her long resume of successes! Even the controversy only drives her popularity and success forward. I wouldn't have discovered this project without the controversy. Now I'm a happy and satisfied backer.

Way to go Susan and Kenzie. You rock!!! Keep being creative and making the world a better place.

To all the basement-dwellers... you spend your free time attacking the digital lemonade stand of a 9 nine year old. Pretty much sums it up.

Luckily, I believe that is the same RPG Maker camp. Unfortunately, according to this comment from a counselor that someone posted to that Kickstarter from the IGN boards, it seems like that camp is pretty much a worthless scam, as well. There's just layer upon layer of scamming going on here.

The precedent is that her project is breaking many, many of Kickstarter's Terms of Service. The most obvious are that this is pretty blatantly a "Fund My Life" project and she's been Twitter spamming out the wazoo. These are both purported to be big no-no's on KS, but who knows at this point.

The thing is that they weren't upfront about their money. The Veronica Mars guy or Penny Arcade or Double Fine didn't hide that they had a lot of money already, the lady doing the "oh I need money to send my daughter to camp" did.

Nah. While we all find it reprehensible that a wealthy person would ask for handouts to send their daughter to camp, I don't think Kickstarter cares (or even should care) about that. The Twitter spamming and "Fund My Life" garbage are the things that Kickstarter should actually care about.

EDIT: In response to Sid, I saw the bidding peak at over $22,000 before all the backlash blew up yesterday. It has since gone down to about $21,000, so at the very least, the backlash has reversed her momentum. There's essentially no chance of enough people paying attention to rescind all of their bids and fall below the $829 goal, though, so I really hope Kickstarter decides to pull it. Either way, I will continue to keep an eye on this glorious shitstorm.

Everyone's quick to hop on their high horse to get a tame kickstarter kicked off, but violating kickstarter's rules on pornography (i.e. funding a pornography game by co-developing a clean version), or having mold shipped in BBQ sauce containers, are both not grounds for a mass revolt, right? Let's call a spade a spade, here.
Why would this be grounds for mass revolt? From what I remember quite a few people here called the Honey Badger BBQ Sauce guys incompetent for that miscue and got upset at them. To the best of my knowledge, though, they said they were going to rectify the problem with their production facility and send out new product to backers once they got it figured out. I'm honestly wondering how you decided to even remotely equate that project with this one?

Hyzenth, could you give a brief pertinent example of how women's learning styles may be different in regards to Sid's post and this kickstarter? I hate to sound snarky, but I doubt anybody's going to go buy a book to get the point you're trying to make on the subject. Simply saying, "Go read this book" isn't very helpful to the discussion.

For actual content, I can't tell if I love this or think it's really loving stupid: Dinosaur Who Gets Arrested

Who watches Watchman?

Seriously, though, when I saw that project posted yesterday, I thought the art was sorta cool and the project was only lovely because the idiots behind it clearly had no idea how to make a video game and hardly seemed to want to make a video game so much as a bunch of cool drawings. Now I know why I like those drawings. Guys, your M.U.S.C.L.E. fan art is decent, but DO NOT try to make money scamming people with your M.U.S.C.L.E. fan art.

If she had been honest from the start, instead of trying to force her daughter into the spotlight as a figure-head, she might not get near as much flak now.
If she had been honest from the start, she would not have gotten any money, because most people will not throw money at a pitch that says "I am a terrible, greedy, human being who is blatantly exploiting her children for profit and playing on gender conflicts in order to bilk idiots out of their hard-earned cash." The secret to being a good scam artist is not honesty. Go figure.
