I feel like I'm one of those guys who are still complaining about Star Wars episodes 1-3 and wish that it had replaced the love stories with more lightsaber battles and replaced gungans with rhodians and had the clone wars involve an army of lobots. But ZUN, like Lucas, is only interested in his own ideas. Good for ZUN to stick to his ideals... they keep things fresh. Only when Disney picks up touhou from ZUN will we definitely see some serious audience pandering.

Kappas aren't that bad either for getting UW, but that's not really saying much since the Bakemono troops are garbage. The other mages are fine though, with the Uba being a decent sitesearcher or battlemage or the cheap mountain recruitable Bakemono shaman. mima confirmed for sure

Of course, you could say that's the essence of fanworks in general, but there's something to be said for having a consistency when it comes to commercial releases. The great thing about fangames is the inclusion of all of the pc-98 crews and their guest appearances (touhoumon and fmw come to mind). I hope Zun ports all of the rumored Mima easter eggs from his new games when they transition to PS4, though.
