The planned invasion and random conquest abilities could make for interesting "How much can you conquer with only one character?" types of games.

They get less "stuff" but it seems pretty okay regardless. Councilor positions all have unique names and you can become the loving SAVIOR OF THE WORLD AS PROPHESIED BY ZOROASTER HIMSELF. :black101:

In order to start looting you need to raise your army, click on the Toggle Looter button in its little menu on the left while in friendly territory and then just go to town in someone else's provinces.

e: You can also loot a province, destroy its fortifications that way and then immediately siege it with a regular army. It's a good way of screwing everyone involved over since the owner gets the Looted modifier and if you hand it off to some rear end in a top hat vassal he'll be in no position to use it either.

Pagans don't gently caress around. The biggest powers in the Old Gods start usually turn out to be Vikings (Mostly Denmark) and some steppe tribe like the Magyars. I'm surprised Christians can survive at all to be honest.

Anyway, here's my Pomeranian kingdom in 932. Guess who's who in these exciting times:

All the red is Denmark, of course. I'd have to punch my way through them in order to reach Novgorod and even then, Slavic is only at 20% Authority. :smithicide:

Then again I might just go Christian an start a Great Crusade For The North.

Ormond is a Grand City I believe, which nets you a big opinion penalty with whoever holds it for some reason. That might be a factor. Try to revoke the castle in the province so it becomes the capital.

Is it normal for republics to become independent at the drop of a hat? I'm trying to stay true to the Byzantine Empire (and eat up the counts in Sicily one by one :getin:) but every time some rear end in a top hat revolts against the Emperor the republic turns, and stays, independent.

e: I would like to recommend Rebellion again as music for ToG. They got you loving covered on the Viking front but there's also a concept album about MacBeth!

Protip: If you want to smash poo poo up as the Karen dynasty, your best bet is to swear fealty to the Muslim guy to the east right away, then strongarm him into Elective Succession, then starting a "Your Dude for Kingdom" faction and beating him up. Way easier than going at it from the outside. You can even force-convert him after you win.

This works about 90% of the time I'd say because you start with a lot more troops than him. He never resisted my demand to switch to Elective for example and even if he doesn't fold to your "Character for Kingdom" demand, you can easily beat him.
I didn't get the Sunni event until well into the game either, so the Muslims weren't fighting each other much.

If the Abbasid shah tries to start poo poo, your best bet is to hold him off in the mountains. I got lucky and was able to select the mountain fighting bonus on my king so it was easy to beat them down to size.

I doubt it since Gilan is too small. You can test it though, those event troops count for a lot right at the beginning of the game. If your overlord gets into a fight with the steppe people to the north early, you might be able to snag the kingdom title.

Zoroastrian realms are pretty goddamn stable between the +10 Saoshyant Descendant, +10 Holy Marriage and the many honorary titles you can hand out. I've been giving away kingdom titles and even those guys don't think about screwing with me.
