Last spring we noticed the responsiveness of my wife's iPhone 8 for his online stuff got him to actually do it, as opposed to an old Kindle fire we had laying around. With that in mind Im assuming my focus should be on the processor to make things as snappy as possible.

The pro is too expensive, so it looks like I should be choosing between the mini and the air? Is that correct?

Get a base model iPad. Cheaper, larger screen than a Mini, still supports the Pencil, easier to replace if broken or stolen. Unless your child is literally Mozart or Michelangelo reborn, they will not need the extra horsepower of a Pro.

What can Apple really do to upgrade the Air that won't raise the price too far from the OG model, or cannibalize sales of the 11" Pro?
As far as I can see, there's only 3 possible upgrades for the Air: Center Stage camera upgrade, 64 > 128gb, updating the SoC to an A15 to match the Mini.
You can't add 120hz, that's a pro feature. You can't add mini-led, that's a 12.9" Pro feature. You can't start at 256gb because that's more than the Pro base models. Maybe Face ID, but that seems to be a Pro-only feature too. And you can't go M1 for the same reasons.

Maybe going up to 6gb ram? They already have BOLD NEW COLORS, soo...

Eww no, that's going to gently caress the battery life. Just gimme the a15, 6gb ram, center stage, macro mode on the rear ultrawide, four speakers, and (most importantly) 128gb storage for the base model (this won't happen :smith: )

I have enough stuff i want stored later for offline use i can probably make decent use of that amount, but 256gb will take a while.

So, iPad pro 11" 128gb is CAD $1000, iPad Air 256gb is CAD $950. Twice the storage, half the refresh rate, half the speakers. And a tenth of an inch smaller screen.

If you want more than 64gb storage you're better off paying CAD $50 more for the 128gb 11" Pro than getting the 256gb Air.

- 120hz screen vs 60
- 4 speakers vs 2
- 600 nits vs 500
- 11" screen vs 10.9"
- 2 rear cameras vs 1
- Time of flight sensor for AR vs none
- thunderbolt vs usb-c
