I like the idea of Poetic case I have on my Mini: slim hard case on the back, smartcover-style flip on the front with the magnet to turn on the screen. Unfortunately, the Poetic is junk and chunks are quickly cracking off the corners. Can anyone recommended something similar, but more durable?

I can't decide if the Adonis Jot actually has screen-scratching tendencies. A lot of reviewers complaining about scratches seem to be using soft screen protectors. Others say things like, "luckily the scratches buffed right out but I returned the stylus anyway," which suggests to me maybe the Jot was just leaving lines in the thick layer of fingerprint grease on their bare screen. Microcenter has a few Jot Pros in their bin of clearance junk and I thought it might be nice for drawing games. Honest scratch stories?

Nihiliste posted:I would assume you could just do a local backup, make a copy of the IPSW, and restore from that if need be. When choosing to restore, you just need to Control-click (or is it Alt-click?) on the appropriate Restore option. Even with the IPSW in hand, basically the install has to be "blessed" by Apple's servers and with very few exceptions, they only do so for the most recent OS version.

I was seriously considering it before but now knowing that Tmobile is giving away data for free and fit only costs 30 more than the same equipped 32gb wifi model...I'm having some difficulty choosing! I love the Mini and am definitely selling it for the retina version. The 11" air is my primary computer, so I'm ok with small devices. If it works, that's still a bit cheaper than the Walmart sale if you consider tax.

I just noticed that they're shipping the new retina mini with a 10w charger, while the non-retina version still gets the phone-style 5w. The batteries are 23.4 vs 23.8 W/h, so no substantial difference there. Do people think the current mini charges slowly? I've never thought so.

I've been trying to make tabs refresh like people are complaining about, and I can't. I opened 6 bookmarks in Safari, browsed around, tabbed around, went to a game, played a movie and came back to Safari. None of the tabs refreshed. Ram uses battery, right? Is that the constraint from Apple's end?

I put the $5 Skinomi skin on my Air last night. It took a lot of patience. I ran out of solution trying to stretch an edge-to-edge fit on the back. The cleaning spray that came with my last pair of glasses made an OK substitute. I probably got into too wet because I didn't think the edges were ever going to stay stuck, but the install video stressed keeping it wet. I couldn't get the front to stretch all the way to the glass edges while keeping the home button and camera cutout centered. The screen had major rainbowing last night, but drying 12 hours fixed that and I don't see any clarity issues. I would have preferred a matte finish in the back, but not enough to spend $15 more on something else. I'm trying to get used to the slightly rubbery feel of my fingers on the screen, but it's not the worst I've felt with a protector. I may peel the front off eventually, but I guess I have to keep the used film in case I ever want a replacement rear film, since their anything-warranty requires you send back the original films in their original packaging.

Then again it didn't say much of anything so maybe they'll now email me with the replacement instructions? The FAQ says if you don't send back your first skin after they send you a replacement you're not eligible for further warranty.

After a year with the Mini I was still two-finger-typing. A week with the Air and I can already lay it down and touch-type fairly quickly. I never thought I'd pick that up, so the extra space is way nicer than I expected.

Feenix: give it 24 hours. My skinomi was a rainbow mess that I intended to peel off and throw away, but now I don't see an optical difference next to a non-skinned air, and the rubbery feeling seems to be slowly hardening too.
