Just updated the ol' cube tutor (by making a new one): http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/20820 and any suggestions are always welcome.

Now that we've had a good amount of time with khans what are people's thoughts on the cards? Haven't seen enough of clever impersonator to judge him well for instance. Anyone try seeker of the way? Assume it runs into similar problems as delver in cube. And commander! Haven't pulled the trigger on things like dualcaster or malicious affliction; how have some of those done? Ob Nixilis better than the uninspiring Bloodgift?

Even all the $20ish foils add up. I'm pretty much done with sub ten bux foils but after that it gets expensive fast. I recently compiled a list of cards I'm interested in proxying up (all over $100, I think) and it was around fifteen cards. And yet my 375 cube is still around $5000; thread title never change, as it will always be the most accurate description of cube. I guess it could be: The most expensive free (and fun!) magic money can buy.

Dragons so far for cube: two sweet red one drops, Narset for some lists, and a couple other potentials? Am I overlooking anything? Seems fairly weak but I suppose I can't really complain after small set FRF gifted so much. And those red one drops are just so good at getting red aggro to the required mass of one drops.

I was thinking of going up to two fetches as well, but when the enemy fetches get reprinted so I could run onslaught/khans and zendikar/??? versions. It's like I'm not breaking singleton! Though with these fancy full art versions... lotsa cube owners are going to be dropping lotsa money.

Worked fine for me recently. Also the new price function on cubetutor is both fun and alarming.

Any cards people have their eyes on from the new set? I wish, wish, wish that flickerdrazi didn't require colorless mana and there doesn't seem enough reason to support colorless really. I also wish that flashback goblin didn't have to compete with Siege Gang, Thundermaw, Zealous Conscripts, Sarkhan, and Kiki-Jiki in my cube. Will probably try him anyway.

Double post ahoy! It's not my fault the thread moves so slowly but let's do something about that. We cubed tonight and I'm gonna make an effort to better document the decks we draft so here are some photos of cube decks. Draft was a 4 person burn draft and the cube is 470 unpowered but with some broken cards in it still. I'll start with my nuts deck:

3-0 and only dropped a game. It was Good. Some of that was due to insane luck like somehow having an opening hand with pestermite and kiki-jiki and sol ring two games in a row. Would've preferred some grindier games since I never saw thing in the ice and I was psyched to try it for the first time.

2-1 and this deck had some sweet plays. Recently added gary to give him a try and he did not disappoint. This was the deck I got my nuts draw twice in a row which is unfortunate since they could've been some spicy games. Also the interaction of bob and vampiric tutor had somehow never come up but it's an amusing one.

1-2, my friend who drafted this deck despaired a bit too late into the draft that he still had no idea what he was doing. Nevertheless he ended up with a serviceable w/g midrange/ramp thing and gave me my only game loss thanks to a quick natural order. Oh and some Thrun beats god do I hate that card.

0-3, this guy is pretty new to magic and cube is of course an insanely difficult format for newer players. So while this deck is certainly a bit of a pile he still managed to turn 3 an inkwell off of metalworker which is definitely cooler than anything I did this draft.

Cube! I hope to keep up with this for some good historical cube data but also because cube is the best so let's share more cube, eh?

Calling Sol Ring unpowered is a bit of a stretch. The only reason it's not power 10 is because it was an uncommon instead of a rare.

That and they reprinted it a bunch and it's legal in edh for some reason.

We are all fully aware of how busted sol ring is but enjoy the opening a pack with black lotus moment and the stories it leads to. Turn one tinker is just good clean fun. We also have mana drain, mind twist, and other broken poo poo so usually most are doing dumb things. That said sol ring is on another level and I fully understand why it's usually excluded in unpowered lists but our group enjoys it and that's ultimately cube at the end of the day.

I've also attempted to get power from legitimate Chinese businessmen but three attempts have led to two refunds and me eating some dough. Anyone know a legit source for proxies? I wanna cast ancestral recall damnit and even collectors edition is pretty absurd these days. And then of course there's cards not even in CE like moat and tabernacle that are still stupidly expensive. Oh and we're still missing an underground sea sigh.

Cubed over the weekend but only got photos of 3 out of the 5 decks. Better than nothing! I'll start with my esper artifacts that went 3-1:

Only match I lost was quite close; deck good. One game I managed to turn two add an ancient tomb to my island, play an engineered explosives, and tinker it away for a myr battlesphere. Next turn I played a tolarian academy and then a sundering titan. Scoop!
Friend playing b/w tokens also went 3-1:

He's the one who prevented me from sweeping the whole thing, bastard. Thoughtseize is good against me who would've thunk it.
Friend on jund went 2-2:

One of the players hadn't played magic in several years and had never cubed before, so as expected he didn't do too hot but still enjoyed himself so yay. Cube!

Belated cube report from two weekends ago incoming, and it's complete with iffy photographs during a sunny afternoon!

First deck was esper artifacts and it did well but didn't sweep it somehow, especially when you consider the broken artifact mana:

This was me on R/u aggro and me also did well:

I ended up questioning my (fairly free) blue splash as I had the option to go more hyper-red aggro. Only Sol Ring will ever know.

Experienced cubee on b/w midrange/recurring. Who knows what the five drops were. Held up decently:

Fairly new magic player and even newer cuber whose decks do manage some hilarious plays. Unfortunately a lot of those didn't translate to wins:

Got some more from the past weekend which I'll try to get up soon. And we're hopefully getting some 100% Legitimate Power pretty soon.

Eternal Masters is looking p good for cubers so far. A lot of good cube reprints already and some fresh art; beta control magic versus foil terese nielsen control magic is a decision I just don't want to make. And for people who run cubes that allow rares we've already seen a good amount of reprints that are cubeable and not exactly affordable.

Today I decided to tear my cube down from 450 powered to 360 unpowered (but with some busted stuff still in like Sol Ring) I wasn't getting to cube very much. Part of that came down to my Cube not being sanction-able since it includes some proxies and I really don't feel like sleeving up the few pieces of power I have and rolling the dice on a relative stranger not running off with my ridiculously overpriced cardboard. I made the decision that I'd enjoy my cube a lot more if I could get to draft it more often, and I'd draft it more often if it was sanctionable and didn't include power and some other really expensive stuff.

I took a quick pass at making cuts and stuff at work and I ended up here:

Come to think of it, there's probably a cube message board out there that has a thread for each set's cube potential.

And a bunch of random aggro 1/2 drops, tireless tracker, heros downfall split card, emrakul, colorless eldrazi if you run it, baral, release the gremlins depending, new lili maybe, kalitas, new avacyn, catgoat ranger maybe, nahiri, goblin dark dwellers, fleetwheel cruiser, that better sex monkey depending, new thalia, hanweir garrison, copy cat maybe, collective defiance, and more I'm forgetting I'm sure.

Didn't think about amonkhet too hard but I think the set will be surprisingly strong for cube, especially an unpowered one.

Recent sets have sucked for standard but they've been pretty great for cube outside of return to zendikar block--oh yeah that Gideon is insane in cube obviously maybe somebody already mentioned him I forget and am phone posting--and that block has to be one of the worst in modern magic history.

e: also smuggler's copter is insane in my powered cube and I can only imagine it's even better in unpowered. I recently opened an admittedly weak pack and took it p1p1.

I only run lore seeker and cogwork librarian anymore for my conspiracy cards that mess with the draft or the game. I used to have a lot more but found it wasn't worth the extra logistics and confusion for newer drafters. Dack and daretti and recruiter of the guard etc are of course fair game.

It’s a good jumping off point since it’s a well-iterated list many people are familiar with, and readily available as you pointed out, but a couple of caveats, one of which was mentioned above: cube is a difficult format and the complexity usually increases the more powerful you get; a C/U cube may be easier for less experienced players since a lot of traditional draft knowledge carries over like removal good, card advantage great, and it’s easier to include gold archetype signals. If your playgroup is more experienced, great! The modo vintage cube is a good launching point but most powered cube managers will have issues with it—aggro too weak, too many walkers, storm too parasitic, etc—yet that’s the beauty of being a cube manager! You get dictatorial control of the contents of your cube! And you can include cards and archetypes your players enjoy too, I suppose.

I’m a proponent of powered cube, and when we cube with newer players they still enjoy themselves (pretty sure) even if they get crushed with their savannah lions elesh norn deck. So if your players are somewhat experienced, or equally inexperienced, I vote print out the vintage cube and adjust liberally.

White has lark and karmic guide too for some gy combo shenanigans. Mechanics like escape and delve could provide interesting tension with using your gy as a resource but possibly exiling relevant cards. Know wotc tends to avoid those types of mechanics in graveyard sets but I think it could be done right in cube. And as others have said, ways to interact will be important, so maybe not leyline of the void, but definitely stuff like crypt.
